Overview
Eri is a character from the manga and anime series My Hero Academia. As the granddaughter of the Shie Hassaikai yakuza boss, she was held captive to exploit her tragic power. After being saved in a high-stakes hero raid led by Izuku Midoriya and Mirio Togata, she is placed under the care of Shota Aizawa at U.A. High School, where she recovers from her trauma and learns to control her Quirk.
Appearance
Eri features waist-length white hair, red eyes, and a single brownish horn on the right side of her forehead. Her horn glows when her ability activates, shrinks after use, and fluctuates in size based on her emotional state and accumulated energy. Before her rescue, she had bandages wrapped densely around her limbs to cover scars and wore a plain white polo-style dress. Afterward, her hair was trimmed, and she wore a white blouse with a red jumper skirt. In her high school years, she wears a sailor uniform while carrying a guitar case.
Personality
Years of abuse from Kai Chisaki instilled in Eri a deep sense of guilt and self-sacrifice, convincing her that her own suffering was necessary to protect others. Having forgotten how to smile, she was initially consumed by fear and emotional numbness. However, through her experiences at the U.A. School Festival and the kindness of those around her, she gradually regains her innocent joy and expressiveness. She possesses a deeply caring and courageous nature, always striving to support the heroes who risked their lives to save her.
Abilities
Eri possesses a rare mutated Quirk called Rewind, which allows her to revert a living target's body back to a previous state. It can completely heal physical trauma without leaving scars, but continuous activation can rewind a person out of existence or regress human evolution. As an accumulation-type Quirk, she stores energy inside her body, reflected in the growth of her horn. Although she initially lacked control—accidentally erasing her father—she masters her power through training under Shota Aizawa, using it to restore Mirio Togata's lost Quirk and regenerate Izuku Midoriya's destroyed arms in the final war.
Background
After accidentally erasing her father when her Quirk first manifested, Eri was abandoned by her mother and taken in by her grandfather, the boss of the Shie Hassaikai. She was subsequently imprisoned and exploited by Kai Chisaki to produce Quirk-erasing bullets. Her encounter with Izuku Midoriya and Mirio Togata prompted a major rescue operation by the heroes. During the battle against Chisaki, she chose to fight back alongside Midoriya and was successfully saved. Living at U.A. High School under protective custody, she slowly healed her emotional wounds, contributed crucially to the final war, and eventually built a peaceful life playing in a music band.
Relationships
Izuku Midoriya is Eri's primary savior, whom she holds in deep affection and looks up to immensely. Mirio Togata is another devoted savior who risked everything for her, inspiring her to master her Quirk specifically to restore his lost powers. Conversely, Kai Chisaki remains the root of her severe past trauma. Shota Aizawa acts as her stern yet caring guardian, overseeing her safety and training. She also develops a close personal connection with Kota Izumi following the war.
Trivia
Eri's favorite food is apples. Creator Kohei Horikoshi mentioned that her facial features share nearly the same base layout as Izuku Midoriya and Ochako Uraraka. Horikoshi also revealed that drawing her traumatic storyline during the Shie Hassaikai arc was emotionally exhausting for him. The notoriously tacky GANRIKI☆NEKO sweater Shota Aizawa intended to buy for her made a brief cameo appearance in the fifth opening sequence of the anime's fourth season.
