Overview

A character from My Hero Academia who is a student in Class 1-A of U.A. High School's Hero Course, operating under the hero name Earphone Jack. Encouraged by her musician parents to pursue her goal, she is a hero candidate who specializes in acoustic combat and stealth reconnaissance through sound manipulation.

Appearance

She is a slender girl of short stature featuring sanpaku eyes and a short bob cut with a hair highlight shaped like a sound wave. Her ears feature long, flexible earlobes ending in audio jacks. In her hero outfit, she applies red triangular marks to both cheeks and equips specialized speaker boots to adjust sound direction and range, alongside footwear and gloves fitted with input sockets.

Personality

She possesses a frank and cool demeanor, often maintaining a relaxed composure. Despite her tomboyish attitude, she has a shy and sensitive side, feeling self-conscious about her body and personal passions while harboring a distinct fear of ghosts. She frequently acts as the practical straight-man to her classmates' antics, yet deeply values and supports her friends.

Abilities

Her Quirk, Earphone Jack, allows her to extend her plug-like earlobes up to six meters each to detect faint sounds through objects or direct amplified heartbeat shockwaves into targets. Using equipment built into her costume, she performs techniques such as Heartbeat Fuzz, Heartbeat Surround, Heartbeat Wall, and Heartbeat Surround Legato. However, extreme noise exposure inflicts auditory damage and can temporarily paralyze her Quirk.

Background

Raised by her parents Kyotoku Jiro and Mika Jiro, she grew up immersed in rock music. Although she considered pursuing a musical career, her longing to help others led her to choose heroism with her family's blessing. At U.A. High School, she overcame trials including the USJ attack, exams, and leading her class band at the Cultural Festival. During the final war against All For One, she fought courageously despite losing her left ear plug, eventually becoming a professional hero.

Relationships

She maintains a close, banter-filled friendship with Denki Kaminari and coordinates well with him in combat. She is particularly close with Momo Yaoyorozu among the female students. During practical exams, she encouraged Koji Koda to overcome his phobia, and during the Cultural Festival, she successfully recruited Katsuki Bakugo into her band. She remains deeply grateful to her supportive parents, Kyotoku Jiro and Mika Jiro.

Trivia

For the live concert scene in the anime adaptation, her singing voice for the featured song was provided by musical artist Chrissy Costanza rather than her regular voice actress, Kei Shindo. In the spin-off manga My Hero Academia: Smash!!, she is frequently showcased as the primary straight-man responding to her peers' quirky behavior.
