Overview
A central character in Vigilante -My Hero Academia: Illegals-, Knuckleduster is an unauthorized hero-like figure operating out of the Naruhata district. Calling himself a street sweeper, he deals out brutal hand-to-hand justice to lawbreakers without possessing a hero license. After rescuing and subsequently press-ganging Koichi Haimawari into his crusade, he forms an alliance alongside Koichi and Kazuho Haneyama as the head of the Naruhata Vigilantes. Despite his crude and violent methods, he leads the group while tackling underground crimes involving illegal drugs.
Appearance
He is a tall, heavily muscular man with short black hair and facial stubble. A mask conceals the upper portion of his face, though a massive scar remains visible across his features. His attire consists of a green coat worn over a black shirt, paired with black fingerless gloves. He equips metal brass knuckles on both hands for striking and uses a grappling hook rope to travel across heights.
Personality
Knuckleduster possesses an aggressive and iron-fisted philosophy of justice, openly enjoying the raw satisfaction of physically punishing criminals. While his abrasive personality and questionable logic frequently alarm those around him, he demonstrates genuine care for his companions. He actively trains Koichi Haimawari, teaches him defensive break-falls, and supplies him with protective equipment. Underneath his reckless front lies a grounded, resolute sense of duty shaped in part by past encounters with fierce martial artists, alongside a quiet willingness to play the role of a supportive mentor.
Abilities
Although he formerly possessed the Quirk Overclock, which accelerated his cognitive processing speed to extreme levels, he is currently Quirkless. Despite lacking supernatural abilities, he boasts immense physical strength and elite hand-to-hand combat skills, allowing him to trade blows with power-type villains and defeat opponents using precise dodges and counterattacks. He fought on equal terms with the Pro Hero Eraser Head in melee combat. Relying on sharp tactical insight and clever improvisation to disarm unique threats, his lack of a Quirk also exempts him from charges of illegal Quirk usage.
Background
He was once the world-renowned speedster Pro Hero named O'Clock, highly trusted by law enforcement as a crime response expert. However, his domestic tyranny alienated his daughter, Tamao Oguro, causing her to flee home, while his wife succumbed to a debilitating illness. After a mysterious entity stole his Quirk, he hit rock bottom and turned into an unlicensed vigilante driven by deep remorse. Meeting Koichi Haimawari inspired him to form the Naruhata Vigilantes. Eventually, he confronted his daughter, who had been turned into the villain Kuin Hachisuka by a parasitic Quirk, saving her life by briefly stopping her heart to free her from the parasite.
Relationships
He takes Koichi Haimawari under his wing as a pupil, harshly training him while secretly holding high regard for Koichi's selfless hero spirit. Together with Kazuho Haneyama, they form the Naruhata Vigilantes. His strained relationship with his daughter, Tamao Oguro, drives much of his campaign, culminating in his desperate mission to save her from parasitic control. During his combat operations, he clashes with Eraser Head over his vigilante methods and debates ideology with Stendhal. Furthermore, his past encounter with the fighter Kendo Rappa left a lasting impression on his current persona.
Trivia
The character's core concept was crafted as a Batman-equivalent counterpoint to All Might's Superman archetype, embodying a raw, personal philosophy of justice outside of societal frameworks. Visual design elements draw heavy stylistic inspiration from American comic creator Frank Miller's work, specifically referencing Daredevil's early gear from The Man Without Fear and the rugged aesthetic of Batman in The Dark Knight Returns.
