Overview
Fat Gum is a character from My Hero Academia. Operating primarily in the Kansai region, he is a Pro Hero known as the BMI Hero who runs his own agency. Having previously assisted law enforcement with investigations into illicit drug operations, he possesses deep familiarity with illegal substances. He serves as a mentor to students such as Tamaki Amajiki and Eijiro Kirishima during their hero work studies.
Appearance
He features short blonde hair and yellow eyes. His body is ordinarily very rotund and heavy, but his physical structure shrinks dramatically depending on his Quirk's usage. His hero costume consists of a yellow hoodie featuring unique front decorations, worn with the hood pulled up. He wears a mask over his eye region, orange gloves, black pants, yellow and orange boots, and knee guards. The outfit is made of specialized stretchable material to match his changing body size.
Personality
He has a bright, cheerful demeanor and speaks in a broad Kansai dialect. Acting as a reliable older-brother figure, he is deeply compassionate and cares for his trainees, pushing them to overcome their mental weaknesses while acknowledging their talent. Friendly and easygoing, he frequently hands out candy to people he meets. He takes pride in his round silhouette and prioritizes subduing opponents quickly to minimize harm.
Abilities
His Quirk is Fat Absorption, which allows his body to absorb incoming physical attacks and sink opponents into his fat to trap or render them unconscious. He can store the kinetic impact he absorbs and release it all at once as a powerful counterattack. However, maintaining this defense rapidly burns through his body fat, reducing his defense and shrinking his physical size.
Background
A graduate of Shiketsu High School, he built a career as a Pro Hero and collaborated with the police on illicit drug operations. During the Shie Hassaikai raid, he fought alongside Eijiro Kirishima against formidable foes, burning off his fat reserve to deliver a decisive strike. After exhausting his defenses, he rapidly regained his weight by consuming vast amounts of food. He continued to play a key role in major battle operations and hero ranking advancements.
Relationships
He deeply respects Tamaki Amajiki's high level of skill while pushing him to overcome his timid nature. He takes a strong liking to Eijiro Kirishima's spirit and helps foster his development, later taking in Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu for winter studies as well. Sir Nighteye calls upon his expertise for drug-related investigations, and he maintains a professional acquaintance with Shota Aizawa dating back to joint undercover operations.
Trivia
Takoyaki is his favorite food, and he keeps a commercial takoyaki maker on his office desk. The slim physique he acquires after burning through all his fat is officially named Fat Gum Low Fat; despite being widely considered extremely handsome in this state, he must quickly eat massive quantities to regain his heavy build for combat effectiveness.
