Hawks

Overview

Keigo Takami, officially known by his title Wing Hero: Hawks, is a major Pro Hero in the My Hero Academia series. Achieving a top-ten ranking at an unprecedentedly young age, he earned widespread fame as the fastest hero in society. Operating primarily out of Fukuoka while acting under the direct authority of the Hero Public Safety Commission, he balances his public persona as a top-ranking hero with high-stakes covert intelligence missions designed to protect social stability from the shadows.

Appearance

Hawks is a man distinguished by large, vibrant red feathered wings on his back. He has short blonde hair paired with light facial hair along his jawline. His hero attire consists of a fur-trimmed jacket over a black inner shirt, trousers, gloves, headphones, and a pair of yellow-tinted goggles covering his eyes.

Personality

On the surface, Hawks displays a casual, lighthearted demeanor, expressing a preference for a tranquil world where heroes have little to do. He shows minimal concern for prestige or high ranks, valuing personal freedom. Beneath this relaxed exterior lies an exceptionally observant and capable operative who resolves incidents and saves lives with extreme efficiency. He possesses a pragmatic mindset willing to undertake morally taxing undercover work, supported by an inherently resilient and optimistic outlook.

Abilities

His Quirk, Fierce Wings, grants him high-speed flight and precise telekinetic control over every feather on his back. The feathers possess both hardness and flexibility, serving as projectile weapons or blades for techniques such as Kazekiri no Tachi, as well as forming binding structures like Ōamabai. By feeling subtle vibrations through his feathers, he accurately perceives sound and spatial layout. However, his feathers are highly vulnerable to fire, and separating too many degrades his flight stability. During the final conflict, his Quirk was stolen by All For One.

Background

Growing up in an abusive environment with a fugitive father and an unstable mother, young Keigo found solace in his admiration for Endeavor. After his father's arrest, he used his wings to save multiple crash victims, prompting the Hero Public Safety Commission to take him in and train him. Debuting at age eighteen, he rapidly climbed the hero rankings. As a double agent inside the Paranormal Liberation Front, he made painful choices including eliminating Twice, sustaining severe burns from Dabi. Following the war and the loss of his Quirk, he retired from field duty and assumed leadership as the new Commission President.

Relationships

Hawks holds deep admiration for Endeavor, acting as a supportive ally to help him lead society. He takes Fumikage Tokoyami under his wing as an intern, forming a mentor relationship where Tokoyami later saves his life. During his undercover assignment, he developed mutual understanding with Twice but ultimately neutralized him due to his dangerous capabilities. He clashes severely with Dabi during the same assignment. Additionally, he reaches out to Lady Nagant, a predecessor in the Public Safety Commission's covert operations, recognizing their shared burden.

Trivia

In early concept designs, Hawks was intended to be an avian humanoid reusing the character Takahiro from the author's prior manga work, Oumagagodoki Zoo. When Takahiro was selected for a guest appearance in an animated feature film, the design was altered into a human possessing wings. Additionally, his hero moniker and regional operation base in Fukuoka bear a connection to the local professional baseball team, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.
