Overview
Present Mic, whose real name is Hizashi Yamada, is a character in My Hero Academia. He is a Pro Hero known as the Voice Hero and serves as an English teacher at U.A. High School. Beyond his teaching duties, he acts as an energetic live commentator for school events such as the Entrance Exam and Sports Festival, as well as a radio DJ. He has been close friends with Shota Aizawa since their high school years.
Appearance
He is a tall, slim man with long golden hair styled high upwards and a small mustache. He has rectangular eyes with concentric green and yellow pupils in colored visual depictions, though depicted with red eyes in the manga, and wears orange sunglasses. His hero suit consists of a black jacket with a very high studded collar, matching trousers, knee-high boots, tan shoulder pads, red belt, elbow pads, and black fingerless gloves. He sports headphones labeled "HAGE" and wears a directional speaker unit around his neck.
Personality
He possesses a bright, high-energy personality and speaks in the flamboyant manner of a radio DJ, frequently referring to students and crowds as his listeners. He constantly tries to hype up the audience regardless of their reaction. He strongly dislikes dead or lifeless atmospheres and avoids environments filled with insects due to an intense phobia of bugs, which can cause him to faint. Despite his loud and casual exterior, he is perceptive and capable of sharp, intelligent observations.
Abilities
His Quirk is Voice, which allows him to produce devastatingly loud sounds and soundwaves across various pitches, capable of damaging an opponent's eardrums from a great distance. His output is amplified and directed using the speaker device around his neck. The primary limitation of his power is that sound does not travel well underground, making his sonic attacks ineffective against targets concealed deep in the earth.
Background
During his student days at U.A. High School, he trained alongside his classmates Shota Aizawa and Oboro Shirakumo. After graduating, he became a Pro Hero and returned to U.A. as an English teacher. In addition to his hero duties and teaching, he hosts a weekly late-night radio show called Present Mic's Put Your Hands Up Radio on HERO FM. As major crises unfold involving the League of Villains and Nomu, he accompanies Aizawa to handle critical investigations.
Relationships
He shares a long-standing friendship with Shota Aizawa dating back to their high school days and personally gave him his hero name, Eraser Head. He and Aizawa frequently hung out with their classmate Oboro Shirakumo, and Nemuri Kayama was their upperclassman. At U.A., he interacts cheerfully with students like Kyoka Jiro and Koji Koda, whom he faced during the practical term-end examinations.
Trivia
He hosts a continuous four-hour broadcast titled Present MIC's Put Your Hands Up Radio every Friday night on HERO FM. Early concept sketches featured speakers built directly into his boots. As an English teacher in Japan, he is fluent in both Japanese and English.
