Overview

The Sludge Villain is an antagonist appearing in the opening arc of My Hero Academia. A petty thief whose body consists entirely of viscous fluid, he plays a pivotal role in triggering the events that launch Izuku Midoriya's path toward becoming a hero.

Appearance

He lacks a fixed solid form, appearing as an amorphous mass of dark green, viscous liquid. The only distinct features visible within his fluid body are a pair of large, bulging eyes and a wide mouth lined with jagged teeth.

Personality

He has a thoroughly selfish and ruthless demeanor. Driven primarily by self-preservation, he exhibits cowardly tactics, willing to violate and hijack innocent civilians to use their bodies as hiding places while fleeing from authorities.

Abilities

Because his body is completely fluid, standard physical strikes pass through him with little effect. He can force himself into a target's mouth and respiratory tract to suffocate them while seizing control of their flesh as a vessel. He can also manipulate a captive's unique powers, though extreme wind pressure can blow his liquid mass apart.

Background

While fleeing a robbery, he was cornered by All Might and attempted to possess Izuku Midoriya in a tunnel, but was thwarted and trapped in a container. After accidentally escaping during transport, he captured Katsuki Bakugo, using his captive's dangerous powers to wreak havoc in the city. Midoriya's reckless rescue attempt distracted him long enough for All Might to defeat him, resulting in his arrest.

Relationships

He targeted Izuku Midoriya on two occasions, seeking to use the boy's body as a cover. He restrained Katsuki Bakugo, exploiting the youth's explosive capabilities to defend himself. He was pursued and soundly defeated twice by All Might.

Trivia

As one of the first antagonists introduced in the series, he serves as the primary catalyst that highlights Izuku Midoriya's innate heroic traits and sets the story into motion.
