Overview

Neito Monoma is a male student in Class 1-B of the Hero Course at U.A. High School in My Hero Academia. Operating under the hero name Phantom Thief, he serves as a central figure and strategic leader among his classmates. He possesses sharp analytical skills and a calm tactical mind, guiding his peers with calculated instructions in battle.

Appearance

Neito has short blonde hair with strands falling between his eyes, paired with blue eyes, a sleepy expression, and a dark, sly smile. He wears a white long-sleeved collared shirt with a blue necktie. His hero costume resembles a black tuxedo, accessorized with three stopwatches on his waist belt that serve to track his Quirk's time limit while acting as a bluff regarding his ability's capacity.

Personality

Neito is highly prideful, sensitive, and fiercely competitive. He harbors a strong rivalry toward Class 1-A, often provoking them with loud laughter and sarcastic comments whenever an opportunity arises. Despite his provocative demeanor, he is a sharp tactician who deeply values and trusts his Class 1-B peers. Shaped by childhood comments that his power was unsuited for a leading hero, he carries an underlying complexity, yet remains driven to earn genuine recognition alongside his allies.

Abilities

His Quirk is Copy, which allows him to replicate and utilize the Quirk of anyone he physically touches for a limited duration. While he can store multiple traits at once, he can only activate one capacity at a time. Quirks that rely on built-up reserves or specific physical preparations yield no effect when copied, resulting in a blank. Rather than relying on brute force, he excels in deceptive tactics, psychological warfare, and calculated maneuvering.

Background

Hailing from Kanagawa Prefecture, Neito entered U.A. High School while grappling with self-doubt over how his unconventional power fit the traditional ideal of a hero. Throughout school events such as the Sports Festival and Joint Training exercises, he strives tirelessly to showcase Class 1-B's worth. Overcoming his internal struggles regarding his supportive role, he grows into a crucial player who performs vital duties during major conflicts.

Relationships

Itsuka Kendo acts as his primary handler in Class 1-B, routinely stopping his theatrical rants at Class 1-A with a swift hand chop to the neck. He shares a mutual understanding with Hitoshi Shinso regarding the unique struggles of their abilities, working seamlessly with him in combat. Towards Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and the rest of Class 1-A, he maintains a persistent and intense sense of rivalry.

Trivia

His name originates from the Japanese word for mimicry (monomane). He enjoys French cuisine and Franco-Belgian comics (bandes dessinées). During the school culture festival, he took the lead in writing, directing, and starring in his class's theatrical play, demonstrating impressive stage presence. His character design took inspiration from actor Dane DeHaan's portrayal of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
