Overview
Inko Midoriya is a supporting character in My Hero Academia and the mother of the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya. As an ordinary civilian whose husband works overseas, she raised her only son largely on her own. She is an exceptionally loving and devoted mother who fully supports Izuku's aspirations to become a hero. However, as Izuku continuously endures severe injuries in hero training and battles against villains, Inko faces profound emotional turmoil over his safety, balancing her protective maternal instincts with her desire for his happiness.
Appearance
Inko Midoriya has green hair and matching green eyes. In her youth, she possessed a slender build, but over the years of stress and guilt regarding her son's upbringing, her body became plump and rounded. She is frequently seen with her long hair styled up or gathered into a bun, and she typically wears comfortable, homey attire such as pink sweaters and aprons.
Personality
Inko is a remarkably gentle, compassionate, and nurturing mother who adores her son. She tends to be timid, anxious, and deeply emotional, frequently bursting into dramatic floods of tears when overwhelmed by stress or concern. Despite her soft-spoken and easily frightened demeanor, she possesses a surprisingly firm inner resolve when it comes to Izuku's safety. Her priority is never grand glory, but simply that her child lives a happy, healthy, and long life.
Abilities
Inko possesses a weak, utility-focused Quirk that allows her to mentally attract small, lightweight objects toward her hands. As a civilian with no combat training, her ability is suited strictly for everyday convenience around the home rather than battle.
Background
Inko raised her son Izuku while her husband, Hisashi Midoriya, was working abroad. When Izuku was diagnosed as Quirkless as a child, she was crushed by guilt for being unable to pass down a Quirk to him, tearfully holding him and apologizing. Years later, when Izuku enrolled in U.A. High School, she lovingly crafted his very first hero jumpsuit by hand. However, watching him repeatedly suffer severe injuries in hero battles filled her with overwhelming anxiety. During a home visit following a villain attack, she bravely confronted All Might and initially refused to allow Izuku to stay at U.A., demanding that All Might prioritize keeping her son alive over sacrifice. Moved by their sincerity, she eventually granted permission for him to live in the school dorms.
Relationships
Inko's life centers around her son, Izuku Midoriya, whom she cherishes unconditionally. Her husband, Hisashi Midoriya, works abroad. When interacting with the Symbol of Peace, All Might, Inko did not hesitate to scold and challenge him from a parental perspective regarding Izuku's well-being. Her fierce maternal determination moved All Might deeply, leading him to remark that her protective strength resembled that of his own mentor, Nana Shimura.
Trivia
She makes a cameo appearance in the spin-off series Vigilantes: My Hero Academia Illegals, where she asks the protagonist, Koichi Haimawari, for directions.
