Overview

Togata Mirio is a major character in My Hero Academia. He is a third-year student in Class 3-B of the U.A. High School Hero Course and serves as the primary figure of the elite student group known as the Big 3. Operating under the hero name Lemillion, he is widely regarded by faculty and professional heroes alike as the top candidate closest to taking the number one spot.

Appearance

Standing 181 centimeters tall, Mirio possesses a tall and muscular frame. He is distinguished by his spiked blonde hair and cartoonish, simplified dot eyes that lack visible sclera. His hero suit, inspired by the hero who saved him in his youth, features a red cape and the number "1000000" across the chest. To prevent his attire from slipping off when activating his power, the suit is crafted directly from his own hair.

Personality

Mirio has an exceptionally sunny, upbeat, and energetic personality, acting as a natural mood maker among his peers. He loves humor and frequently attempts bad jokes to break the ice, even if they often fail to land. Behind his jovial exterior lies an unshakeable sense of justice and a deep drive to assist anyone in distress. Having overcome early shortcomings through sheer diligence, he possesses extraordinary mental fortitude and a grounded perspective that keeps him resolute under pressure.

Abilities

Mirio's Quirk is Permeation, which enables his body to phase through solid matter and render incoming attacks harmless. While active, light, sound, and air pass through him, rendering him unable to see, hear, or breathe, while phasing through the ground causes him to fall due to gravity. Deactivating the Quirk while overlapping a solid object violently repels him outward, a mechanic he masterfully utilizes for instantaneous high-speed movement. Perfected through arduous training and spatial prediction learned under Sir Nighteye, his skills include martial arts mastery, the fake-out strike Blind Touch, the high-speed volley Phantom Menace, and the attention-grabbing joke technique "Peaches are ripe!!".

Background

After surviving a near-drowning incident in his childhood thanks to a rescue hero, Mirio determined to pursue heroism. He inherited the Permeation Quirk from his father, but due to its immense difficulty to manage, he initially ranked at the bottom of his class at U.A. High School. His turning point came in his second year when he interned under Sir Nighteye, honing his combat prediction until he rose to lead U.A.'s Big 3. During the raid on the Shie Hassaikai to rescue Eri, Mirio fought Overhaul single-handedly. He shielded Eri from a Quirk-destroying bullet, losing his power, yet continued fighting with raw physical combat. His Quirk was later restored by Eri's power, allowing him to return during major battles, eventually claiming the top spot on the Hero Billboard Chart JP years later.

Relationships

Mirio shares a deep childhood friendship with Amajiki Tamaki, whom he befriended in third grade, and alongside Hado Nejire, the trio forms U.A.'s Big 3. Sir Nighteye served as his beloved mentor, grooming Mirio with high expectations due to his bright disposition. He acts as an encouraging senior to Midoriya Izuku, introducing him to Nighteye's agency while sharing a common ideal of saving people. Mirio also forms a tender bond with Eri, risking his life to shield her from danger and continuing to care for her well after her rescue.

Trivia

His hero name Lemillion expresses his resolve to save one million people, while also echoing the title of the 1931 French comedy film Le Million. His ultimate move Phantom Menace directly references the subtitle of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Prior to All Might meeting Midoriya Izuku, Principal Nezu had originally recommended Mirio as the ideal candidate to inherit the One For All Quirk, a circumstance Mirio himself remained unaware of.
