Overview
Stain is a major villain in My Hero Academia, widely feared under the moniker Hero Killer. Driven by a fanatical personal ideology, he believes modern society has been corrupted by individuals who pursue fame and wealth under the guise of being heroes. By traveling from city to city to assassinate those he deems hypocrites, Stain leaves a lasting ideological impact on both hero society and the villain underworld.
Appearance
Stain is a muscular man with short, spiked black hair, red eyes, and a facial visage that lacks a nose. He wears an eye-mask headband and a long, tattered red scarf wrapped around his neck. His outfit consists of a black shirt, gloves, body bandages, and heavy combat boots outfitted with metal spikes. A distinctly long, prominent tongue is another key feature of his appearance.
Personality
Stain possesses a fanatical and unyielding sense of justice. He holds extreme contempt for heroes who seek financial reward or personal notoriety, viewing them as parasites corrupting society. Conversely, he demonstrates deep respect for individuals who exhibit genuine, selfless heroism. His overwhelming killing intent and refusal to compromise his ideals make him an intimidating and terrifying presence to allies and enemies alike.
Abilities
Stain relies on high mobility, extreme agility, and formidable close-quarters combat skills. He carries an extensive arsenal of bladed weapons, including a katana, combat knives, and throwing knives. His Quirk, Bloodcurdle, enables him to paralyze any target whose blood he licks off his blades using his long tongue, disabling them completely during combat.
Background
Despising the commercialization of heroism, Stain launched an assassination spree targeting pro heroes across various cities. After crippling the hero Ingenium, he was confronted in a Hosu City alleyway by Ingenium's younger brother, Iida Tenya, along with Todoroki Shoto and Midoriya Izuku. Recognizing Midoriya's self-sacrificing nature as that of a real hero, Stain spared him while fighting the others. Though defeated and arrested after a intense battle, Stain's terrifying final speech paralyzed pro heroes like Endeavor with fear, causing his radical ideology to spread rapidly throughout society.
Relationships
Stain idolizes All Might as the only true hero in existence, believing All Might alone has the right to defeat him. He respects Midoriya Izuku for demonstrating authentic heroic selflessness and refrains from killing him. In contrast, he severely condemns Iida Tenya and Ingenium for self-serving motives, as well as Endeavor for chasing fame and power. While ideologically opposed to Shigaraki Tomura, Stain's eventual capture indirectly fueled the growth of the League of Villains by inspiring numerous followers to join their cause.
Trivia
Widely known by his dangerous epithet Hero Killer, Stain's combat methodology is intimately tied to his physical arsenal, using specialized blades to draw target blood for immediate consumption. Following his capture, recorded footages of his intense declarations circulated widely online, triggering a massive societal shift in the series' world.
