Tsuyu Asui

Overview

Tsuyu Asui is a student in Class 1-A of the Hero Course at U.A. High School in My Hero Academia. Operating under the hero name Rainy Season Hero: FROPPY, she possesses a Quirk that grants her the biological traits of a frog. Recognized for her extraordinary composure, keen observational skills, and reliable decision-making during emergencies, she serves as an indispensable emotional anchor for her classmates.

Appearance

Tsuyu Asui features long, dark green hair tied into a bow shape near her lower back, large round black eyes, and a wide frog-like mouth. She possesses an elongated tongue as well as enlarged hands and feet. Her natural posture is stooped, and she frequently adopts a frog-like squat when sitting on the ground. Her hero costume consists of a green-dominated bodysuit equipped with oversized gloves, goggles worn on her head, boots shaped like frog feet, and a utility belt, with added neck coverings for cold weather.

Personality

Tsuyu Asui maintains a calm demeanor, allowing her to assess crisis situations rationally without losing her composure. She is very straightforward and speaks her mind directly, which can sometimes render her statements blunt, though she is fundamentally compassionate and guided by a strong sense of justice. She prefers those she considers close friends to call her by her given name. When deep in thought, she habitually touches her index finger to her mouth.

Abilities

Her Quirk, Frog, endows her with a wide range of amphibious capabilities. She can extend her powerful tongue up to 20 meters to grab, swing, or throw targets, and she can adhere her hands and feet to walls for vertical traversal. Her strong legs allow for impressive jumping distances and powerful kicks, and she possesses exceptional agility in water. Additional techniques include storing and retrieving objects in her stomach, secreting mildly toxic mucus with paralyzing or scent-masking properties, and blending into her environment via camouflage. However, because of her cold-blooded nature, exposure to low temperatures drastically reduces her mobility and induces sleepiness.

Background

Hailing from Aichi Prefecture, Tsuyu spent much of her youth taking care of her younger siblings and handling chores while her parents worked. During middle school, her demanding home routine and stoic expression initially led to social isolation before she formed a lasting friendship. Upon enrolling in the Hero Course at U.A. High School, she steadily refined her skills through numerous field encounters, including the USJ incident, work studies focused on maritime rescue, and joint operations alongside professional heroes.

Relationships

Tsuyu maintains close ties with her U.A. High School classmates. She was among the first to notice the unique nature of Izuku Midoriya's power, and she regularly reprimands Minoru Mineta with her tongue whenever he behaves inappropriately. She has built a strong friendship with Ochaco Uraraka through shared internships and training exercises, and she exhibits excellent teamwork when paired with Fumikage Tokoyami. At home, she is a reliable eldest daughter to her parents, Ganma and Suzu, and her younger siblings, Samidare and Satsuki.

Trivia

Her surname and given name contain the Japanese characters for frog and rainy season, reflecting her character theme. Her hero name FROPPY is officially written with an R rather than an L. Manga creator Kohei Horikoshi noted during development that he inadvertently made her overall skill set a bit too formidable due to her high versatility.
