Overview
Anaxa, whose full real name is Anaxagoras, is a playable Wind-attribute character following the Path of Erudition in Honkai: Star Rail. Originating from Amphoreus, he serves as one of the Seven Sages of the Grove of Epiphany and is the founder of the Nousporists school. As a Chrysos Heir connected to the Coreflame of Reason, he rejects divine prophecies and titan worship to pursue objective truth. In combat, he functions as a versatile damage dealer and debuffer capable of inflicting multiple elemental weaknesses.
Appearance
He has long light green hair styled into a low ponytail with distinctive hair intakes and cross bangs. His eyes feature a gradient transitioning from red to light blue, and his left eye is covered by a black eyepatch detailed with gold patterns. He has a red tattoo on his right hand. His outfit includes a black long-sleeved shirt, a blue vest, a black capelet, a white ascot, black trousers, and blue shoes, accompanied by black partially fingerless gloves and various jewelry.
Personality
Arrogant and eccentric, Anaxagoras adamantly insists on his full name, detesting the abbreviated name Anaxa and disliking being interrupted. While he comes across as a cynical non-believer who mocks religious authority, he genuinely encourages critical thinking in his students and respects those who sacrifice for others. Beneath his stern academic exterior lies a surprising passion for Whatsamatta creatures; he collects their merchandise, sleeps in Whatsamatta pajamas, and deeply values a plush toy given to him by his late sister.
Abilities
Armed with a firearm, he unleashes Wind-element bounce attacks that strike targeted and random enemies multiple times. Every hit applies a random elemental weakness to the target, and enemies inflicted with five or more weaknesses suffer increased damage and trigger a free follow-up Skill attack. His Ultimate deals area-of-effect Wind damage, immobilizes enemies under the Sublimation status, and simultaneously applies all seven elemental weaknesses. His Technique induces fear in overworld enemies, forcing them to flee and allowing battle initiation with weakness coverage.
Background
Hailing from a remote city-state, he lost his family to the Black Tide at a young age. Devastated when prayers to the Titans went unanswered, he dedicated himself to scholarly pursuits at the Grove of Epiphany to decipher the nature of souls. He sacrificed his left eye and divine golden blood in a forbidden alchemy experiment just to speak briefly with his deceased sister's spirit. He later established the Nousporists, facing charges of blasphemy and academic subversion for challenging dogmatic titan theories and teaching students to question established authority.
Relationships
He holds deep affection for his late sister Diotima, whose memory drives his soul research. He mentored Phainon and Castorice as his students, encouraging them to challenge his logic until they could debate him on equal terms. He shares a contentious, bickering relationship with fellow Chrysos Heir Aglaea due to contrasting philosophies. He also maintains professional and ideological ties with his mentor Empedocles and other Sages of Amphoreus, such as Tribbie, Windfin, and Cerydra.
Trivia
His name is derived from the ancient Greek philosopher Anaxagoras, who famously proposed theories on the mind (Nous) and faced trial for impiety. His title Hypocrite stems from the Greek term hypokrites, meaning actor or deceiver. Official artwork incorporates an Amphorean script translated as "The seeds you've sown are already sprouting." His distinctive technique voice line "Magic trick!" became a popular meme among players, frequently associated with consumable energy items.
