Overview
IX is an Aeon governing the Path of Nihility in Honkai: Star Rail, also known by titles such as the Sleeping Shapeless One and the Pitch-Black Sun. Believing that the universe is inherently devoid of meaning and that existence holds no value, IX refrains from interacting with other Aeons and remains shrouded in dense mist.
Appearance
Enveloped in layers of thick mist, IX's exact form remains an enigma. It appears as a dark, blob-like entity reminiscent of a black hole or slime, featuring asymmetrical eyes. Fans often refer to this rounded appearance as Black Commander.
Personality
Embodying laziness, exhaustion, and futility, IX maintains complete indifference toward all cosmic events. It does not actively harm others, remaining perpetually passive while viewing all existence as devoid of purpose.
Abilities
IX exerts a profound power of Nihility that corrupts and erases celestial bodies and living beings. Those subject to its gaze become Self-Annihilators, gradually losing their memories, senses, and physical form. Its existence generates a Black Web separating reality from emptiness. In the Simulated Universe, IX is registered as absolute nonexistence, triggering system detection errors.
Background
IX casts its shadow across the cosmos, causing anyone who stumbles upon its realm to draw its gaze. The twin planets Izumo and Takamagahara once orbited IX, but both were ultimately consumed by its nihilistic power. A group from the Annihilation Gang once attempted to assassinate IX with the backing of Aha, only to vanish without a trace.
Relationships
While IX interacts with no one, factions have formed around its existence. Self-Annihilators succumb to its shadow and fade away, while the Doctors of Chaos seek to prove the value of life to cure its curse. The mysterious Ninth Device also circles its lore. Additionally, the Aeon of Elation, Aha, once playfully funded an assassination attempt against IX.
Trivia
The name IX corresponds to the Roman numeral nine, which is commonly associated with the ninth Major Arcana tarot card, The Hermit.
