Overview
Arlan is a playable character in the role-playing game Honkai: Star Rail, created by miHoYo. Serving as the head of the Security Department at Herta Space Station, he is a four-star character aligned with the Lightning element and the Path of The Destruction. Although he lacks a background in scientific research, Arlan puts his life on the line to guard the station's researchers so they can focus on their work. Taciturn and serious, he commands respect through his unwavering dedication, treating the physical injuries he sustains in the line of duty as marks of honor.
Appearance
Arlan is a young man with dark skin and purple-red eyes. His long white hair features a black streak, is bound in a low ponytail, and partially covers his right eye. He wears a grey jacket over a black shirt, paired with blue pants and black knee-high boots. Bandages are wrapped around his left arm, accompanied by adhesive plasters and visible scars. He sports mismatched gloves, with black on his right hand and white on his left, along with a blue armband displaying the station emblem.
Personality
Arlan is quiet, serious, and deeply dutiful. Reserved in speech, he expresses his commitment through heroic action, showing a self-sacrificing disposition that treats battle wounds as badges of honor. He maintains a vigilant composure while performing his security rounds and training duties. However, he drops his guard only when spending time with Asta's pet dog, Peppy, which brings out a rare, warm smile. Despite his quiet nature, Arlan frequently finds himself in the role of a long-suffering caretaker, constantly watching over others and worrying about his supervisor Asta's reckless spending habits.
Abilities
Wielding a large sword, Arlan fights as a Lightning-element attacker following the Path of The Destruction. His Skill consumes a portion of his own health to deal heavy Lightning damage to a single enemy without expending Skill Points. His Ultimate strikes a targeted foe alongside adjacent enemies with powerful Lightning attacks. Through his Talent, his damage output scales higher as his remaining health decreases, rewarding low-health battle tactics. Additionally, his bonus abilities grant him self-healing upon defeating foes at low health and temporary defensive barriers against incoming attacks.
Background
Before working at the space station, Arlan served at Asta's household, where he tended to a dying puppy named Peppy and formed a lasting bond with him. When Asta decided to leave her family home to manage Herta Space Station, Arlan loyally followed her without hesitation, eventually taking charge of the station's Security Department. During the sudden invasion by the Antimatter Legion, he single-handedly blocked the elevator to prevent monster forces from entering the Master Control Zone. Though heavily wounded in the confrontation, he was rescued with the assistance of the Trailblazer and their companions. He continues to oversee station security and investigate internal incidents.
Relationships
Arlan is fiercely loyal to Asta, treating her as his benefactor and superior, while often attempting to curb her lavish shopping habits. His closest bond is with her pet dog, Peppy; Arlan acts as Peppy's emergency contact, plays electronic frisbee with him, and is the only person around whom Arlan completely relaxes. Regarding Herta, the space station's master, Arlan is not one of her devout followers, yet she permits him to work there. During the invasion of the space station, the Trailblazer, Dan Heng, and March 7th helped escort the injured Arlan to safety, establishing a mutual trust between them.
Trivia
During patrols, Arlan makes an effort to remain unobtrusive so as not to distract researchers from their work. He is the nine-time consecutive champion of the station's annual Find Peppy competition. He faces a unique dilemma with his smartphone case, which requires a minimum order of 5,000 units due to the station's distant shipping location. His daily routines include drinking mixed vegetable juice before bed, and he has an appetite for earthworm jerky from Seeds Island. The fragmented sword he uses in battle contains unique materials not listed in standard space station catalogs.
