Overview
Yunli is a character from Honkai: Star Rail who hails from the Xianzhou Zhuming. As the beloved granddaughter of General Huaiyan, she is a prodigy sword hunter and blacksmith, ranking as the second-youngest among the Eight Leaves of the Flame Wheel. In gameplay, she is a 5-star character following the Path of The Destruction with the Physical element. Having learned swordsmanship and forging from her grandfather since childhood, she works tirelessly to track down and destroy dangerous cursed swords.
Appearance
Yunli has dark hair worn in a short style with low twintails, paired with yellow eyes. She wears a golden headpiece with hair ornaments and a single earring. Her outfit features a white top with a center cutout revealing a black undergarment, a green pleated dress, a red scarf, white detached sleeves, and black gauntlets. She goes barefoot, accented by a red strap around her right thigh and an anklet on her left ankle.
Personality
Yunli is frank, straightforward, and possesses a strong sense of justice, though she can be lazy and act on whim like a cat. She is somewhat cold or blunt toward people she meets for the first time, but harbors deep empathy for weapons, being able to hear their internal voices. She loves treats such as fruit skewers and reacts fiercely against cursed swords or those who mistreat their arms.
Abilities
Yunli wields a massive greatsword with immense physical force. Her combat style centers on countering enemy attacks with blast strikes. Upon activating her Ultimate, she enters a parry state and taunts all enemies; taking hit or reaching the end of the stance triggers powerful enhanced counters. Her Technique grants an intercept state that automatically launches an enhanced counterattack when entering battle.
Background
Yunli lost her parents in a catastrophe caused by her father, a blacksmith who forged thousands of cursed swords infused with Helios. Rescued and raised by her grandfather Huaiyan, she mastered both forging and combat. To atone for her father's actions, she took up the mantle of a sword hunter, gathering and melting down cursed blades across the stars. Her journey eventually brings her to the Xianzhou Luofu for the Martial Ceremony.
Relationships
General Huaiyan is her grandfather and teacher. She initially clashes with Yanqing over his handling of a sword, forming a fierce rivalry that gradually softens into mutual respect as they co-tutor March 7th. She views Lingsha as an elder sister figure and takes a curious interest in the Trailblazer after inspecting their baseball bat.
Trivia
Yunli's visual design takes inspiration from the apsaras depictions in the Dunhuang murals. Her skill line references classical Chinese literature, specifically passages from the Sword chapter of the Zhuangzi.
