Overview
Jing Yuan is a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail who serves as the Arbiter-General of the Cloud Knights on the Xianzhou Luofu, holding the title of Divine Foresight among the Seven Arbiter-Generals. Walking the Path of Erudition with the Lightning element, he presents himself as a relaxed, effortlessly laid-back leader, earning the nickname of Dozing General. Beneath this indolent exterior lies an extraordinarily cautious and brilliant strategist who meticulously manages affairs to prevent crises before they escalate. Once a member of the legendary High-Cloud Quintet, he remains a steadfast cornerstone of the Xianzhou Alliance's stability.
Appearance
Jing Yuan features long white hair tied in a high ponytail with a red hair ribbon, with part of his bangs draped over one side of his face. He has yellow eyes and a distinctive mole under his eye. His attire consists of long-sleeved Chinese-style clothing paired with shoulder armor, a belt, leg rings, red pants, and long black boots.
Personality
Despite his relaxed and seemingly lazy disposition—often found napping, gardening, or taking a hands-off approach to minor affairs—Jing Yuan is a remarkably calculating and observant tactician. He prefers avoiding conflict altogether by carefully arranging matters in advance rather than relying on desperate heroic turnarounds. Calm and deeply patient, he treats subordinates, guests, and allies with warm courtesy. He also possesses a endearing soft spot for fluffy creatures, demonstrated when he impulsively bought a small snow lion, named it Mimi, and doted on it despite its enormous appetite.
Abilities
In combat, Jing Yuan wields a broad blade and commands the power of Lightning. His signature capability is summoning a powerful spectral entity known as the Lightning-Lord. As Jing Yuan uses his Skill and Ultimate to deal area-of-effect Lightning damage, he increases the attack count and speed of the Lightning-Lord. The Lightning-Lord then acts independently, delivering multi-hit follow-up attacks that deal heavy Lightning damage to targeted enemies and adjacent foes. However, if Jing Yuan is afflicted with crowd-control debuffs, the entity is rendered unable to act.
Background
Born into a family of scholars in the Realm-Keeping Commission, Jing Yuan chose a different path by joining the Cloud Knights against his parents' wishes. Mentored by the legendary swordmaster Jingliu, he rose to fame as part of the High-Cloud Quintet. After tragic events—including the Shuhu revolt, the Sedition of Imbibitor Lunae, and his master succumbing to Mara—left the Quintet shattered, Jing Yuan assumed the mantle of General of the Luofu. Centuries later, he raised and trained the young prodigy Yanqing while navigating major political turmoil and Stellarion crises alongside the Astral Express.
Relationships
Jing Yuan acts as a caring mentor and father figure to his young apprentice, Yanqing, treating him as his most trusted companion. He was trained under the former swordmaster Jingliu, whose strict lessons shaped his battle philosophy. In the past, he shared deep bonds with his High-Cloud Quintet comrades: Dan Feng, Yingxing (now Blade), and Baiheng. Within the Luofu hierarchy, he works closely with key officials like Fu Xuan, Yukong, and Lingsha, placing great trust in Fu Xuan to manage affairs and eventually succeed him. He also maintains professional ties with fellow Arbiter-Generals such as Feixiao and Huaiyan.
Trivia
The pet snow lion Jing Yuan purchased was initially named Mimi under the belief that it was an ancestor of Xianzhou domestic cats; after it consumed vast quantities of synthetic meat and generated rumors about the general's spending, a medical exam confirmed it was a lion, prompting him to rename it Treading Snow Lion. Legends at the Divine Foresight Office also speak of an older loyal lion named Shuoxue that waited centuries for his return. Additionally, in an official Chinese community first-anniversary popularity poll, he secured first place in both the Character of the Year and Popular Male Character categories.
