Overview
Fu Xuan is a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail who serves as the head of the Divination Commission on the Xianzhou Luofu. Aligned with the Quantum element and the Path of Preservation, she is a confident and intelligent diviner who calculates future paths and foretells fortune using her third eye and the Matrix of Prescience. Firmly believing that her calculated predictions represent the optimal path forward, she performs her executive duties while waiting for General Jing Yuan to fulfill his promise of stepping down to yield his seat to her.
Appearance
Fu Xuan has a petite build, golden eyes, and long pink hair styled into low twintails with parted bangs, a ring-shaped braid, and hair sticks with tassels. A gemstone-like third eye, known as the Omniscia, is embedded in the center of her forehead. Her outfit consists of a traditional Chinese-inspired sleeveless layered dress featuring a black outer section and a purple-pink inner section, paired with detached sleeves, arm guards, drop earrings, white tights, and black pumps.
Personality
Fu Xuan is rational, decisive, and proud of her intellect. She speaks in a formal manner laden with literary references, which can occasionally confuse her companions. Though she projects an unshakeable and dignified demeanor, she is easily provoked when teased about her short height or when outmaneuvered by General Jing Yuan. As a leader, she maintains high standards and frequently scolds her slacker subordinate Qingque, yet she genuinely values talent and cares for those under her command. To combat the severe mental fatigue caused by her predictive work, she drinks large amounts of sweet tea daily.
Abilities
Fu Xuan is a Quantum-element Preservation character who mitigates incoming damage and protects her allies. Through her forehead-embedded third eye and the Matrix of Prescience, she performs complex calculations to predict future events. In battle, her Skill activates the Matrix of Prescience, redirecting 65% of damage taken by allies to herself while increasing their maximum HP and critical rate. Her Talent passively lowers damage taken by all allies and automatically restores a large portion of her missing health when her HP drops below half. Her Ultimate deals area-of-effect Quantum damage scaling with her maximum health while granting a charge to her self-healing Talent, and her Technique creates an overworld barrier that prevents enemy aggression and auto-triggers her Skill upon entering combat.
Background
Born into a family of astrologers on Xianzhou Yuduan, Fu Xuan originally studied under Yuduan's Master Diviner. She later left her homeworld for the Xianzhou Luofu after clashing with her master's fatalistic views on destiny and learning of a prophecy wherein her actions would end his life. During the Third Abundance War, she proposed requesting divine intervention to save Xianzhou Fanghu, a plan that preserved the ship at great cost and ultimately led to her former master's death. Rising to become the head of the Luofu's Divination Commission, she played a vital role during the Luofu's Stellaron crisis by interrogating Kafka, analyzing the situation via the Matrix of Prescience, and supporting the fight against Phantylia, even temporarily handling executive duties while Jing Yuan recovered.
Relationships
Fu Xuan maintains a complex professional dynamic with General Jing Yuan, constantly urging him to fulfill his promise to retire so she can assume the role of General; despite her annoyance at his clever maneuvering, the two share profound mutual respect. She frequently reprimands her subordinate Qingque for slacking off, yet holds high regard for her intelligence and entrusts her with key responsibilities. Her past on Xianzhou Yuduan connects her to her former master Jingtian and her senior fellow disciple Yaoguang, with her master's fate permanently shaping her philosophy on destiny. Following the Stellaron crisis, she formed a friendly bond with the Trailblazer and March 7th, using the Matrix of Prescience to assist March 7th in exploring her lost past.
Trivia
Fu Xuan's third eye, the Omniscia, was granted by Nous, the Aeon of Erudition. Because her long-life species biology continuously suffers a rejection reaction to the foreign organ, she lives in constant physical pain while employing its powers. To counteract the immense mental fatigue caused by foreseeing future paths, she habitually drinks massive amounts of sweet teas like Star Taro Boba every day. Additionally, her idle animations form a mirrored pair with those of her subordinate Qingque: while Qingque's divinations yield results encouraging laziness, Fu Xuan's divinations consistently indicate a good time for overtime work or detecting slackers.
