Overview
Yaoshi is an Aeon presiding over the Path of Abundance in Honkai: Star Rail. Depicted as a divine nurturer of all living beings, this cosmic entity seeks to foster endless prosperity and sustain life across the universe. Yaoshi never turns away any prayer for healing or survival, harboring an absolute aversion to decay, illness, and mortality. While worshipped by many as a benevolent deity of salvation, the indiscriminate blessings bestowed by Yaoshi often result in profound unintended consequences and cosmic catastrophe.
Appearance
Yaoshi possesses a serene, divine aesthetic defined by long golden hair draped over one eye and golden eyes. The entity features prominent horns, long fingernails, and six arms. Unshod and barefoot, Yaoshi is adorned with white robes, a veil, and ornate jewelry including beads, armlets, bracelets, and decorative tassels. Distinctive facial markings complete this multi-limbed, celestial visage.
Personality
Yaoshi embodies unconditional compassion, selflessness, and altruism. Driven by an innate intolerance for suffering, disease, and death, the Aeon answers every plea for help without prejudice. Yaoshi's morality transcends human concepts of good and evil; the deity bestows gifts of eternal life out of pure benevolence, entirely indifferent to or unaware of whether these blessings ultimately curdle into tragic mutations for the recipients.
Abilities
As the Aeon of Abundance, Yaoshi grants total immortality, miraculous healing, and boundlessly regenerating cellular vitality to living beings. Through divine intervention, Yaoshi created the Ambrosial Arbor, a miraculous plant that fostered extraordinary biological advances and physical transmutation. However, this eternal life eventually corrupts the bodies and minds of recipients, turning them into mutated entities known as the Mara-Struck. Additionally, any attempt to divine Yaoshi's nature triggers immense cosmic backlash against the practitioner.
Background
Thousands of years ago, spacefaring seekers from the ancient Xianzhou fleets traversed the cosmos in search of an elixir of immortality. Upon encountering Yaoshi at the border of reality, they received the miracle of the Ambrosial Arbor. Though this gift elevated the Xianzhou into immortal beings and ignited a golden age of rapid biological innovation, endless life eventually led to societal collapse and the horror of the Mara-Struck curse. A legendary hero eventually severed the Ambrosial Arbor, giving rise to Lan, the Aeon of The Hunt. Since that turning point, the Xianzhou Alliance and Lan have waged a relentless crusade to eradicate Yaoshi and all abominations born of Abundance.
Relationships
Yaoshi shares a fierce, everlasting enmity with Lan, the Aeon of The Hunt, and the Xianzhou Alliance. Viewing the gift of immortality as a catastrophic curse, Lan and the Xianzhou refer to Yaoshi as the Plagues Author and seek to extinguish the entity across the galaxy. Conversely, Yaoshi is revered as a savior known as the Merciful Medicus by followers known as the Denizens of Abundance, ancient Seekers of Elixir, and the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus—a secretive cult operating within the Xianzhou to reclaim forbidden immortality.
Trivia
Yaoshi's official name and core philosophy—let all sentient beings obtain what they desire—are derived from Bhaisajyaguru, the Medicine Buddha, and the Bhaisajyaguru Sutra. The title Lord of Longevity is widely recognized as an allusion to the Tengri faith. Within the legal system of the Xianzhou's Ten-Lords Commission, any attempt to divine the future of Yaoshi is categorized as a high crime due to the fatal cosmic backlash inflicted upon the diviner.
