Overview
Tail is a character in Honkai: Star Rail. He is a spirit belonging to the heliobus species, originating as the most potent fragment of the ancient heliobus Ignamar. Following an encounter during Huohuo's childhood in which he absorbed her tail, Tail was bound into her body by the Ten-Lords Commission, effectively becoming her literal fox tail. Despite his blustering demeanor and initial hostility, he serves as an indispensable partner to Huohuo during her duties as a Ten-Lords Commission judge, protecting her while offering guidance disguised behind a rough exterior.
Appearance
As a heliobus, Tail lacks a fixed organic body and primarily appears as a green, flame-like fox tail attached to Huohuo. When taking shape as an independent spectral spirit, he exhibits fox ears, sharp slanting eyes with black pupils, and a sanpaku gaze. His form varies depending on the situation, ranging from a menacing, fiery fox entity to a compact, simplified spirit, alongside his standard state as a glowing tail.
Personality
Tail possesses an imperious and abrasive temperament, frequently utilizing rough language and demanding self-assertive respect. His extreme pride was evident when he historically rejected possessing other hosts to sustain his strength after splitting from Ignamar. While he continually taunts Huohuo about her timid nature and tearful tendencies, he harbors a deeply protective, parental affection for her. Beneath his harsh insults lies a supportive instinct, often stepping forward to shield Huohuo from danger and offering blunt yet encouraging counsel to clear the mental doubts of those he encounters.
Abilities
As a wind-aligned heliobus, Tail possesses spiritual abilities centered on consciousness manipulation. He can enter the mental realm of individuals to purge inner demons, banish doubts, or extract distorted desires. Furthermore, he is capable of invading the bodies of other heliobi to disrupt their internal energy balance during combat. Although he was originally the most formidable fragment of Ignamar, his overall combat strength has been substantially diminished due to his refusal to possess physical hosts and his containment within Huohuo's seal.
Background
Tail originated as the primary fragment of the great heliobus Ignamar following its defeat by General Teng Xiao of the Xianzhou. Weakened over time, he encountered a young Huohuo and attempted to consume her, swallowing her tail before the Ten-Lords Commission intervened to seal him inside her. This event led to Huohuo's isolation and eventual recruitment into the Ten-Lords Commission. During the heliobus unrest in Fyxestroll Garden, Tail unsealed himself to invade the formidable heliobus Cirrus, disrupting her power from within to secure victory. Though briefly separated from Huohuo afterward, he entered her consciousness to free her from an illusion created by another heliobus, ultimately accepting being resealed into her body.
Relationships
Tail shares a bound existence with Huohuo, acting as both her tormentor and most reliable guardian. He originates from the massive heliobus Ignamar and maintains a hostile relationship with fellow heliobi such as Cirrus. His interactions with Ten-Lords Commission judges Hanya and Xueyi revolve around his confinement, though he shows a level of cooperation with Hanya, allowing her to temporarily store him in a gourd. Additionally, Tail developed an admiration for the fighter Luka during the Wardance, entering Luka's mind to reignite his competitive resolve.
Trivia
During the Wardance event, Tail registered for competition under the alias Karma Flame. His facial features have drawn comparisons among fans to wolf characters in traditional animation. When visiting the Astral Express with Huohuo, he is offered phase flame ashes as a delicacy by Pom-Pom, a snack that Tail enjoys immensely.
