Overview

Blackmore is a minor antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run. Operating as a dedicated henchman and assassin under United States President Funny Valentine, he holds official law enforcement investigative authority. Appearing as a key opponent during the fourth stage of the Steel Ball Run race, he is characterized by his keen observational skills and logical deduction. Highly perceptive and methodical, he carries out his duties with absolute commitment, driven by intense loyalty to his leader and a deeply reverent fanaticism toward the Holy Corpse.

Appearance

Blackmore is an American male with long blonde hair bound in a high topknot ponytail and dark blue eyes. His attire includes a hooded cloak, along with high waders or integrated boots, and he carries an umbrella. Over his face, he wears his Stand, which takes the form of a hockey mask decorated with a vibrant rainbow pattern.

Personality

Blackmore presents a polite and soft-spoken demeanor, frequently offering formal apologies, yet he harbors a cold and ruthless nature. He possesses exceptional analytical intellect, capable of piecing together complex situations from tiny physical clues, such as disturbed locks and bird footprints. His loyalty to President Funny Valentine is absolute and unflinching. However, under his composed exterior lies a fanatic spiritual streak; witnessing the miraculous nature of the Holy Corpse overwhelms him with profound religious reverence, occasionally compromising his usual calculated focus.

Abilities

Blackmore's Stand, Catch the Rainbow, activates exclusively during rain and is unable to freeze normal water. It allows him to solidify falling raindrops in mid-air, utilizing them as steps for aerial walking, sharp edges to slice opponents, or barriers to block incoming strikes. He can also assimilate with rainfall to sever and disperse his own body into individual components for distant movement. While he can temporarily plug fatal wounds with frozen raindrops to delay death, the effect completely dissipates once the storm stops. Additionally, he uses the visibility of his Stand's mask to identify other Stand users.

Background

While assisting President Funny Valentine in retrieving a vital message sent by Ringo Roadagain, Blackmore deduces from subtle clues that an intruder has taken the information. He tracks down Lucy Steel and confronts Mountain Tim, who assisted her escape; after Tim refuses to betray her, Blackmore kills him in battle. He eventually corners Lucy and secures the Holy Corpse, but his sudden religious awe upon witnessing its power leaves him vulnerable, allowing Lucy to shoot him point-blank. Mortally wounded, Blackmore uses his Stand to plug his bleeding torso with frozen raindrops and continues his pursuit. He engages Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar, but Gyro neutralizes his technique using the rotation of his iron balls. As the storm clears, his Stand deactivates, and Blackmore succumbs to fatal blood loss.

Relationships

Blackmore serves President Funny Valentine with unshakeable fidelity, carrying out covert investigations and assassinations on his command. He shares a prior acquaintance with Mountain Tim, but shows no hesitation in killing him when Tim refuses to disclose Lucy Steel's whereabouts. He relentlessly pursues Lucy Steel after uncovering her intrusion, though she manages to inflict a fatal gunshot wound on him during a moment of distraction. His final confrontation pits him against Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar, who join forces with Lucy and ultimately break his Stand ability.

Trivia

Blackmore's name and Stand title are derived from legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and the song "Catch the Rainbow" by the rock band Rainbow. Within the narrative of Part 7, he holds the unique distinction of being the only antagonist other than President Funny Valentine to directly witness a divine manifestation of the Holy Corpse.
