Overview
Lisa Lisa is a major character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency. Based on Air Supplena Island near Venice, Italy, she is a master of the Hamon martial art who trains both Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli and Joseph Joestar. Through her mastery of Hamon breathing, she maintains the vibrant appearance of a young woman despite being 50 years old. Her true identity is Elizabeth Joestar, the biological mother of Joseph Joestar, who holds the responsibility of guarding the Super Aja.
Appearance
Standing 175 centimeters tall, Lisa Lisa maintains the youthful look of a woman in her late twenties despite being 50 years old. She features a prominent forehead, long brown or black hair, and blue eyes. Her signature style includes dark sunglasses, earrings, lipstick, a suspender top, long gloves, black tights, and a distinctive scarf woven from beetle silk.
Personality
Lisa Lisa is an intelligent and composed beauty who maintains a strict, demanding demeanor as a martial arts mentor. Highly independent and proud, she strongly dislikes being pitied or patronized by younger people. Beneath her stern exterior lies a deeply caring nature that earns her the profound respect of her students. Her personal habits include smoking cigarettes and brushing back her hair, and she enjoys fine fashion and taking baths.
Abilities
A supreme master of Hamon, her power is over three times greater than that of Joseph Joestar. Her signature gear is a scarf crafted from the intestines of 30,000 Satiporoja beetles, which conducts Hamon with 100 percent efficiency and functions as a biological radar. Her techniques include Snake Muffler, which hardens her scarf to support her body for powerful kicks, as well as Indigo Blue Overdrive and Sunset Orange Overdrive. When awakening her humanoid Stand, The House of Earth, she can exhale storm-force winds filled with superconducting particles to transmit Hamon across broad areas and disable electrical infrastructure.
Background
Rescued as an infant by Erina Joestar during an 1889 ocean liner tragedy in which her biological parents died, she was raised and taught Hamon by Straizo. She later married George Joestar II and gave birth to Joseph. After slaying the zombie who killed her husband, she was falsely accused of murdering an RAF commander and fled to Italy under the alias Lisa Lisa with help from the Speedwagon Foundation. During the conflict with the Pillar Men, she trained her pupils and fought on the front lines. Despite being severely injured by Kars's deception, she survived, revealed her motherhood to Joseph after the final victory, moved to the United States, and remarried a screenwriter in 1948.
Relationships
She served as the master to her biological son, Joseph Joestar, and his friend Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli. She was raised and taught Hamon by Straizo, who also entrusted her with the Super Aja. She maintained close ties of trust with her mother-in-law, Erina Joestar, and the Speedwagon Foundation following the death of her husband, George Joestar II. Her assistant, Suzi Q, later became her daughter-in-law upon marrying Joseph.
Trivia
Her name originates from the American musical group Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. Creator Hirohiko Araki designed her as a strict, demanding female mentor to contrast her with the gentler teacher archetype represented by Will Anthonio Zeppeli in Part 1. The scene where her apprentices accidentally glimpse her taking a bath remains one of the series' most famous early fanservice moments.
