Overview

Vanilla Ice is a major antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders. Serving as DIO's right-hand man and most formidable assassin, he confronts the Joestar group inside DIO's mansion in Cairo, wielding a Stand capable of disintegrating matter.

Appearance

Vanilla Ice is a muscular man with long wavy hair and distinctive visual attributes including heart-shaped accessories, earrings, gloves, and tattoos. He sports high-leg attire that leaves his legs exposed, depicted in some media as a set composed of a sleeveless outer jacket paired with bikini bottoms. Visual depictions across adaptations vary in hair color—ranging from dark brown to blue or silver—and eye color, which includes gold, red, pink, purple, or black.

Personality

While typically calm, analytical, and tactical in battle, Vanilla Ice possesses a fanatical devotion to DIO that supersedes his own survival. He displays extreme fury and cruel behavior toward anyone who disrespected or mimicked his master, resorting to ruthless physical violence. His mindset is deeply twisted and driven by absolute faith in both DIO and his own powers, leading Jean Pierre Polnareff to describe his inner psyche as a pitch-black crevasse.

Abilities

He commands Cream, a humanoid Stand with a skeletal face and two horns. By swallowing itself along with its user, the Stand converts into an invisible, ball-shaped portal to a void dimension. In this state, it erases any matter it touches while remaining immune to physical strikes, though Vanilla Ice must briefly peek out of the Stand's mouth to check his surroundings. After receiving DIO's blood, Vanilla Ice gained enhanced endurance and regenerative abilities as a vampire, which also made him fatally vulnerable to sunlight.

Background

Acting as DIO's right-hand servant in Cairo, Vanilla Ice decapitated himself to offer his blood to his master, prompting DIO to revive him using his own vampire blood. During the infiltration of the mansion by the Joestar party, he launched a surprise attack that cost Muhammad Avdol his life and mortally wounded Iggy. Though he severely injured Jean Pierre Polnareff, Vanilla Ice was unaware of his own vampire transformation until Polnareff exposed him to direct sunlight, turning him into dust.

Relationships

He maintains total submission and fanatical loyalty toward his master, DIO. In combat, he kills Muhammad Avdol and Iggy, while engaging in a deadly struggle against Jean Pierre Polnareff.

Trivia

His name is derived from the American rapper Vanilla Ice, while his Stand takes its name from the British rock band Cream, marking the first musical name reference used for a Stand in the series. In early manga prints, a dialogue error caused him to address his master as 'DIO' without a respectful title, which was later corrected in revised editions.
