Overview
Higashikata Ryohei is a supporting character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. He is the maternal grandfather of the protagonist Josuke Higashikata and the father of Tomoko Higashikata. Serving as a dedicated police officer who has protected Morioh Town for 35 years, he represents the strong civic protective spirit of the community.
Appearance
He is depicted as a middle-aged man standing 173 cm tall, featuring graying white hair, blue eyes, and a visible mustache. He is primarily seen wearing his standard police officer outfit.
Personality
In his daily life, Ryohei has a playful demeanor and loves entertaining his family, often playing mischievous games with Josuke. He takes an interest in collecting branded clothing and footwear, a fashion passion that his grandson inherited. Behind his easygoing manner lies a deep sense of justice and professional duty; he turns intensely serious whenever he senses a threat looming over his town.
Abilities
Ryohei possesses no Stand abilities, relying instead on his decades of practical law enforcement experience and sharp intuition built over 35 years as a beat cop.
Background
Years prior to the main story, Ryohei arrested the violent criminal Anjuro 'Angelo' Katagiri. After acquiring a Stand and escaping prison, Angelo sought revenge by targeting Ryohei's daily routine of drinking brandy after a night shift. Infesting the liquor with his Stand Aqua Necklace, Angelo killed Ryohei at the age of 55. His passing deeply moved Josuke, inspiring him to take over his grandfather's mission to protect Morioh.
Relationships
He maintains a loving relationship with his daughter Tomoko Higashikata and his grandson Josuke Higashikata. He is held in bitter resentment by the criminal Katagiri Anjuro, whom he once apprehended. In the spin-off narrative, he also showed warm kindness toward the young Stand user Boingo during their encounter in town.
Trivia
Although referred to as a basic police officer (巡査), fans often note that 35 years of service would realistically place him at a higher rank such as senior police officer. Remarkably, he is the same age as Holly Kujo, the eldest daughter of Joseph Joestar.
