Overview
Wekapipo is a character from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run, created by Hirohiko Araki. Formerly a royal guard of the Neapolitan Kingdom, he accepts an assignment from President Funny Valentine alongside Magent Magent to hunt down Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar in exchange for American citizenship and social standing. After learning key truths about his past during the conflict, he changes his allegiance to protect Lucy Steel.
Appearance
Wekapipo is distinguished by a hair and beard style shaved into a grid-like pattern of short squares. Early in his appearances, he is shown with a mustache that is later removed. He wears a light-colored jacket featuring a high collar that flares open, paired with a necktie and trousers marked by overlapping double polka dots.
Personality
Wekapipo is a cautious and highly methodical tactician who approaches combat with deliberate planning. He holds deep respect and technical understanding for the Zeppeli family's steel ball techniques while maintaining confidence in his own martial background. Driven by strong familial care, the safety and well-being of his sister remain his primary personal motivation.
Abilities
Rather than a Stand, Wekapipo relies on "Wrecking Ball," a steel ball technique specialized for royal bodyguard combat. His specialized main sphere discharges 14 smaller sub-spheres known as "satellites." Even if the target only grazes the shockwave produced by these satellites, the resulting impact alters brain function to induce a temporary state of left-side ataxia lasting over ten seconds. In this state, the victim completely loses sensation on their left side and fails to perceive anything positioned to their left. He can also use the steel ball to harden his own skin.
Background
After defeating his sister's abusive husband in a duel, Wekapipo was exiled from Neapolis through a fake death arranged by Gregorio Zeppeli to spare him from revenge by the husband's influential father. Seeking American citizenship, he accepted President Valentine's contract. During his fight against Gyro Zeppeli, Gyro revealed that Wekapipo's sister was alive and kept safe by Gregorio, convincing Wekapipo to stand down. Reclaiming his purpose, he agreed to guard Lucy Steel, defeating his vengeful former partner Magent Magent by trapping him underwater. During a joint effort with Diego Brando against President Valentine, Diego manipulated Wekapipo to escape the enemy's spatial power, causing Wekapipo to collide with his parallel universe self and crumble into nonexistence.
Relationships
Gregorio Zeppeli previously faked Wekapipo's death to send him into exile. Though initially sent to eliminate Gyro Zeppeli, Wekapipo ceased hostility after Gyro revealed his sister was alive, agreeing to protect Lucy Steel in Gyro's place. This shift turned his former partner, Magent Magent, into a bitter enemy whom Wekapipo eventually immobilized beneath a river. While briefly allying with Diego Brando against President Funny Valentine, Wekapipo was ultimately betrayed and sacrificed by Diego to survive Valentine's ability.
Trivia
The character's name is derived from "Wekapipo (Wake Up People)," a song by the Japanese hip-hop group SOUL'd OUT.
