Overview

Ringo Roadagain is an antagonist featured in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run. Serving as a gunman and Stand user under United States President Funny Valentine, he encounters the main characters in a mysterious orchard. Ringo operates under a strict personal aesthetic called the "True Man's World," believing that spiritual enlightenment and inner growth can only be attained through fair, lethal duels driven by an unyielding "Dark Determination."

Appearance

Ringo has light grey hair swept to the left and blue eyes. His facial hair includes a long, thick mustache, a skull-shaped soul patch, and two slim patches running along his chin. He wears a light-colored, short-sleeved jacket featuring a high standing collar, paired with dark gloves that leave his index fingers and thumbs exposed. A modern wristwatch is worn on his right wrist, and his trousers feature frills and studs near the hem. He carries an 1874 Colt revolver supported by an ammunition belt and holster.

Personality

Despite his role as a lethal assassin, Ringo exhibits a calm, polite, and deeply courteous demeanor toward his opponents. Beneath this refined exterior lies a devoted seeker of self-improvement who aims to elevate his spirit through life-or-death combat. Possessing keen observation skills, he quickly perceives the fundamental nature of others, recognizing Johnny Joestar's ruthless drive and Gyro Zeppeli's passive tendencies. Ringo adheres to an unyielding code of honor, revealing his own capabilities before battle to ensure a fair contest under his distinct personal philosophy.

Abilities

Ringo is a skilled marksman who wields a revolver. His Stand, Mandom, manifests as an octopus-like head resting on his shoulder with several belt-like strips hanging down. Its primary ability is to rewind time by precisely six seconds, requiring a mandatory six-second cooldown before it can be activated again. Turning the dial or second hand of his wristwatch functions as a mental trigger to invoke the power. When time is rewound, affected individuals retain their memories of the undone seconds, a phenomenon Ringo exploits to keep intruders trapped in an orchard loop.

Background

Born into an impoverished farming family, Ringo spent his youth wandering with his mother and two sisters after his father deserted the military and died in prison. As a child, he suffered from a chronic skin condition and was physically frail and timid. His life changed drastically when a rogue soldier invaded their home and murdered his family. Ringo disarmed the assailant and dropped the weapon to initiate a fair speed-draw contest, shooting the soldier dead. Following this event, his skin disease miraculously cured, leading him to believe that fair, lethal struggles forge true personal strength. Later recruited by President Funny Valentine, Ringo ambushed Johnny Joestar's group in an orchard to claim the Saint's Corpse, ultimately meeting his end in a fierce duel against Gyro Zeppeli while ensuring vital intelligence was dispatched to Valentine.

Relationships

Funny Valentine: The President of the United States and Ringo's employer, who dispatched him to secure the Saint's Corpse. Ringo remained loyal to his duty until his final moments, sending critical intelligence back to Valentine.

Gyro Zeppeli: Ringo's primary duel opponent. Initially dismissing Gyro as a passive responder lacking resolve, Ringo eventually fought him in a decisive duel. Although Ringo was slain, his philosophy profoundly reshaped Gyro's perspective and growth throughout the remainder of his journey.

Johnny Joestar: An opponent in whom Ringo immediately identified a ruthless "Dark Determination," recognizing the lethal focus hidden within Johnny.

Gaucho and Hot Pants: Interlopers encountered in the orchard. Ringo killed Gaucho in a formal duel and heavily wounded Hot Pants during their confrontation.

Trivia

Ringo Roadagain's name is derived from former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and the Willie Nelson song "On the Road Again." His Stand, Mandom, takes its name from the song "Lovers of the World" by John Mapes. Within the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Ringo is one of the very few minor antagonists—outside of final bosses—to possess a time-manipulation Stand ability. Despite his antagonist role and old-fashioned moral code, his steadfast aesthetic and memorable duel with Gyro Zeppeli have earned him widespread popularity among readers.
