Overview

Oyecomova is an antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run. Hailing from the Kingdom of Neapolis in Italy, he is an anti-monarchist terrorist who enters the Steel Ball Run race during Stage 2. He targets Gyro Zeppeli to prevent the rider from winning royal amnesty and prestige for the monarchy, while also harboring a personal grudge against the Zeppeli family. Additionally, he maintains connections with President Funny Valentine, seeking to retrieve the Saint's Corpse.

Appearance

Oyecomova wears a biker cap adorned with chain accessories, featuring holes through which his long, dark, spiral dreadlock-like hair sticks out. His face is covered by a netting veil intended for sun protection and insect screening, accompanied by American flag-inspired makeup and striped lipstick. Clock tattoos cover his arms and legs, and his fair skin has a fragile outer layer with a darker tone underneath. His attire includes a vest with inner stitching, a skirt split into long pointed sections, a stomach apparatus, striped wristbands, and mid-calf striped boots.

Personality

Oyecomova is a ruthless and calculating terrorist who stops at nothing to achieve his goals. He displays a sadistic relish for high-stakes, tense situations, often commenting on how much his hands are sweating in the heat of battle. Motivated by deep anti-monarchist sentiment against the Neapolitan crown and a bitter grudge against the Zeppeli family, he approaches combat with meticulous persistence, weaponizing both his immediate environment and his own physical form without hesitation.

Abilities

Oyecomova possesses the Stand Boku no Rhythm wo Kiitekure (Oye Como Va), awakened after passing through the Devil's Palm in the Arizona desert. The Stand resembles a caped, bird-like figure inspired by African folk art, with stats of Destructive Power B, Speed C, Range C, Persistence B, Precision E, and Growth C. Its ability allows Oyecomova to transform anything he touches into bombs or landmines equipped with analog clock pins. Detonation occurs when the pin falls out, though replacing the pin before explosion prevents it. He can simultaneously convert multiple objects, including solids, living creatures such as bees, amorphous substances like water and cigarette smoke, and even sections of his own fragile skin. He cannot detonate the bombs manually at will.

Background

An anti-monarchist terrorist from Neapolis, Oyecomova attempted to assassinate the King in 1888 by bombing a royal carriage, leaving five people dead, including two children. Captured and sentenced to death, he escaped by smuggling explosives into prison and detonating them inside a guard's ear. This failure forced Gregorio Zeppeli, Gyro's father and the royal executioner, to resign. Fleeing to America, Oyecomova gained his Stand at the Devil's Palm and mastered it in four days. Learning that Gyro's victory in the Steel Ball Run would earn royal amnesty, he joined Stage 2 of the race to assassinate Gyro. After ambushing Mountain Tim in a waypoint town and inflicting severe injuries that forced Tim to retire, Oyecomova engaged Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar. Despite cornering them with bombs made of smoke, water, and bees, he was defeated when Gyro used Johnny's spinning nail to launch steel balls with amplified velocity, crushing Oyecomova's face through his mesh veil.

Relationships

Gyro Zeppeli: Oyecomova's primary assassination target. He seeks Gyro's death both to prevent royal amnesty in Neapolis and out of a grudge against the Zeppeli family. Johnny Joestar: Gyro's ally. Johnny's spinning nail bullets enhanced the power and range of Gyro's steel balls, leading to Oyecomova's defeat. Mountain Tim: A member of the SBR race staff. Oyecomova ambushed him at a waypoint hostelry, severing his body with skin bombs and forcing his retirement. Funny Valentine: The President of the United States. Oyecomova maintained contact with Valentine's faction to track down the Saint's Corpse believed to be in Gyro's possession. Gregorio Zeppeli: Gyro's father. The royal executioner who was forced to resign following Oyecomova's prison escape.

Trivia

Oyecomova's name originates from the famous Latin music track "Oye Como Va," composed by Tito Puente and popularized by Santana. This marks the first instance in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series where a Stand's official Japanese name uses the translated title ("Boku no Rhythm wo Kiitekure"), while the original Spanish title was adapted as the Stand user's name. Creator Hirohiko Araki noted that the mesh veil over his face was designed as a practical race item for sun and insect protection; ironically, during his defeat, the steel ball's impact pressed the net deep into his skin, leaving a painful grid pattern across his face.
