Overview

Nijimura Okuyasu is a core supporting protagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable. Initially introduced as an adversary alongside his older brother, he joins forces with the protagonist, Higashikata Josuke, after experiencing Josuke's selfless kindness. Attending school in Morioh Town, Okuyasu becomes Josuke's closest companion and steadfast battle partner. Despite his rough exterior and delinquent reputation, he is fundamentally warm-hearted, intensely loyal, and serves as a vital ally throughout the town's strange battles.

Appearance

Okuyasu has a distinctive hairstyle featuring a black punch perm on top and slicked-down grey hair on the sides, along with broad cross-shaped scars across his face. He wears a customized double-breasted school uniform decorated with currency signs, including dollar and yen symbols. The kanji for 100 million is marked on his right shoulder, while the word BILLION appears on his left. He presents an intimidating, delinquent-like visual appearance.

Personality

Okuyasu is straight-talking, quick-tempered, and highly emotional, yet deeply compassionate and friendly. Recognizing his own lack of academic sharpness, he frequently admits that heavy thinking gives him headaches and struggles with making independent decisions due to long reliance on his older brother. He is easily overcome by emotion, sometimes crying out of jealousy over his friends' romantic luck. Despite his rough demeanor, he has refined taste in cuisine, despises spicy food, and strongly prefers sweet treats, while maintaining a practical stance on money.

Abilities

Okuyasu wields the humanoid Stand named The Hand. By swinging its right hand, it can erase anything—including physical matter and space itself—leaving no trace. The scraped space automatically seals back together, a phenomenon Okuyasu can utilize to instantly teleport himself or drag objects and opponents closer. Because this power bypasses conventional physical defense, it possesses immense destructive potential. The unique pattern on its right palm can be controlled at will, allowing him to grab objects without erasing them.

Background

Born in Tokyo, Okuyasu grew up in severe hardship after his family's business failed and his mother passed away. His father subsequently accepted a flesh bud from DIO in exchange for wealth, which mutated him into an immortal creature upon DIO's death. Seeking a Stand user powerful enough to grant their father peace, Okuyasu and his elder brother Keicho moved to Morioh Town to create Stand users using the Arrow. After befriending Josuke and losing Keicho to Otoishi Akira, Okuyasu continued living in Morioh Town, managing household duties while aiding his friends in defending the town.

Relationships

Okuyasu shares a profound bond of friendship with Higashikata Josuke, acting as his trusted combat companion. He deeply revered his elder brother, Nijimura Keicho, whose death prompted Okuyasu to seek personal independence. He lives with and cares for his mutated father, Nijimura Mansaku, handling cooking and household chores. He sought retribution against Otoishi Akira for killing his brother. He maintains close ties with Hirose Koichi and Yangu ShigeKiyo, and holds immense admiration for the culinary creations of chef Tonio Trussardi.

Trivia

The Stand name The Hand is derived from the American root rock group The Band. The blinders covering the Stand's eyes reflect Okuyasu's narrow vision and straightforward temperament. In the spin-off novel The Book by Otsuichi, a character references The Hand when naming their own Stand out of respect for Okuyasu. Additionally, he is notable within the overarching series as one of the few main protagonist partner characters to survive through to the end of his story arc.
