Overview

Squalo is a minor antagonist appearing in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind. He is a member of the Elite Guard serving Diavolo, the boss of the Passione gang. Alongside his trusted partner Tiziano, he is dispatched to Venice to eliminate Bruno Bucciarati's rogue team. Utilizing his long-distance Stand, Clash, which travels between bodies of liquid to launch deadly surprise attacks, Squalo acts as a ruthless assassin determined to carry out his mission.

Appearance

Squalo is a young man around twenty years old with blue eyes and vibrant orange-yellow hair styled in short, multiple tied-back tails held by a headband. He wears a dark sleeveless top, and his overall visual design incorporates motifs of roses and sharks.

Personality

Squalo is confident, aggressive, and highly assertive in demeanor. Despite his hard-edged personality, he places absolute trust in his partner Tiziano and relies heavily on his tactical judgment during combat. He harbors an extraordinarily deep bond and emotional attachment to Tiziano, to the extent that when his partner is slain, Squalo completely disregards his original orders from the Boss, driven entirely by an intense desire to avenge his companion.

Abilities

Squalo wields the Stand Clash, characterized by Stand stats of Destruction D, Speed A, Range B, Persistence A, Precision A, and Growth C. Taking the form of an armored, shark-like fish, it is a long-distance Stand capable of instantly teleporting between any liquids, including puddles, soup, tears, and blood droplets on a target's body. Clash can bite and drag victims through liquid surfaces, and its body size fluctuates according to the volume of the liquid medium. Due to its low destructive power (D), it must specifically target vital spots to inflict fatal injuries. Its weaknesses include a limited teleportation distance of two to three meters per jump, an inability to enter sealed liquid containers, and a complete incapacity to operate in dry environments.

Background

As a member of Diavolo's Elite Guard in Passione, Squalo is sent to Venice alongside Tiziano to assassinate Bruno Bucciarati's group. They launch an ambush against Narancia Ghirga, severing part of his tongue and placing Tiziano's Stand inside him to prevent truthful communication. Squalo uses leaking water to inflict severe injuries on Giorno Giovanna and capture members of the group, but Giorno's clever tactics allow Narancia to track Clash's movements. After fleeing into a crowded square, Tiziano sacrifices his life to shield Squalo from bullets. Using his fallen partner's blood as a liquid bridge for Clash, an enraged Squalo makes a desperate final assault, but is blown away and killed by Narancia's Aerosmith.

Relationships

Squalo maintains an exceptionally close partnership with Tiziano, his fellow Elite Guard member, trusting his strategic advice unconditionally and displaying immense grief upon his death. During their mission, he targets Narancia Ghirga, whom he severely impairs before ultimately being pinpointed and defeated by him. Squalo serves under Passione's boss, Diavolo, receiving direct orders to eliminate Bruno Bucciarati's unit, and shares membership in the Elite Guard alongside figures like Carne, Cioccolata, and Secco.

Trivia

Squalo's name translates to "shark" in Italian. His Stand, Clash, derives its name from the British punk rock band The Clash, while its visual appearance is modeled after ancient armored fish (placoderms). Additionally, the character's thematic musical track in the television anime adaptation incorporates a musical motif referencing the famous theme from the film Jaws.
