Overview
The protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 8: JoJolion. Discovered buried naked near the mysterious "Wall of Eyes" in Morioh Town following a major earthquake, he is a young man who has completely lost his memory. Taken in by Norisuke Higashikata and named Josuke by Yasuho Hirose, he embarks on a quest to discover his true identity. Although generally soft-spoken and mild-mannered, he demonstrates an unshakeable resolve when protecting those he cares about or seeking the truth behind his origin.
Appearance
He has short black hair and wears sailor attire consisting of a sailor suit with a dixie cup hat, sneakers, and badges featuring an anchor and a peace symbol. On his neck is a star-shaped birthmark surrounded by indentations resembling a tooth mark. His visual characteristics include a front tooth gap, subtle vertical lines dividing both his irises and his tongue, and four testicles. Later in the story, the area around his left eye becomes petrified into stone after consuming a specialized Locacaca medication.
Personality
Despite his amnesia, he possesses standard high-school-level knowledge and a relaxed demeanor. He displays quirky habits, such as preferring to sleep compressed underneath his mattress, and utters inquisitive phrases when surprised. While generally calm, he is fiercely competitive and becomes highly emotional during life-or-death struggles. His affection for Yasuho Hirose is immense, leading him to display complete ruthlessness toward anyone who attempts to harm her. In combat, he is sharp-witted and adept at analytical trap tactics.
Abilities
He possesses a unique ability to accurately measure lengths, heights, and distances purely by visual inspection. His primary Stand, Soft & Wet, takes the form of a humanoid robot with an anchor emblem on its chest. It generates star-marked soap bubbles—formed by ultra-thin strings spinning at high speeds—from his fingertips or birthmark. Upon popping, these bubbles can temporarily "plunder" physical properties such as sound, friction, vision, or moisture, transport enclosed objects, or inflict explosive kinetic damage. Additionally, he can discharge an invisible, furiously spinning bubble from his left shoulder known as "Soft & Wet: Go Beyond," which transcends the logic of calamity, though aiming it precisely requires external support.
Background
After being rescued from the earth at the Wall of Eyes, he takes shelter with the Higashikata family while searching for his identity. Through battles against Rock Humans, he discovers that he is a fusion of two individuals—Yoshikage Kira and Josefumi Kujo—created by the equivalent exchange of the New Locacaca fruit combined with the power of the soil. Driven by the inherited resolve to cure Kira's mother, Holly Joestar, he enters the conflict over the miraculous fruit. Facing the leader of the Rock Humans, Tooru, Josuke awakens a power capable of transcending calamity to win the battle. In the aftermath, he accepts his identity as a distinct entity born from the Wall of Eyes and chooses to remain with the Higashikata family.
Relationships
Yasuho Hirose is his savior and closest companion, for whom he holds deep affection and absolute loyalty. Norisuke Higashikata acts as his guardian, taking him into his household as family. Yoshikage Kira and Josefumi Kujo are the two original men whose bodies and powers merged via equivalent exchange to create Josuke. Holly Joestar is Yoshikage Kira's mother, whom Josuke makes it his central mission to save from her condition. Tooru is the leader of the Rock Humans operating at TG University Hospital, serving as Josuke's ultimate adversary. Rai Mamezuku is a vital ally who realizes the true nature of Josuke's invisible bubble ability.
Trivia
His name "Josuke" was chosen by Yasuho Hirose after a dog she used to own. Because he shares his name phonetically with the protagonist of Part 4, fighting games designate him as "Josuke Higashikata 8" to avoid confusion. His gap-toothed design was inspired by creator Hirohiko Araki suffering from a cavity during the early serialization of Part 8. The anchor symbols on his clothes and Stand represent "hope" and "peace" in Christian motifs. His Stand's name, Soft & Wet, is derived from the Prince song of the same title.
