Overview
Mohammed Avdol is a main protagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders. Based in Cairo, Egypt, he works as a fortune teller and joins the Stardust Crusaders alongside his trusted friend Joseph Joestar. As a natural-born Stand user, he serves as the primary source of knowledge regarding enemy Stand abilities and local regions, guiding the group on their long journey.
Appearance
Avdol has dark skin with vertical scars on his cheeks. He wears his black hair bound up at the top in short dreadlocks with the back gathered below. His attire features a broad, loose coat paired with distinct jewelry that connects his earrings to his necklace, as well as bracelets on his arms.
Personality
Avdol is traditionally serious, dutiful, and acts as the level-headed brain of the group. However, he admits to being hot-tempered and stubborn, making him poor at gambling. After returning to the group mid-journey, he displays a more boisterous and comical side. He highly values his comrades, often taking risks to protect them, and has a fondness for reading old books and eating sushi.
Abilities
Avdol commands the avian-headed humanoid Stand 'Magician's Red,' which can freely generate and control fierce flames capable of melting solid metal. His techniques include the 'Crossfire Hurricane,' firing ankh-shaped bursts of fire, and creating a specialized flame radar to detect nearby bio-signatures. Beyond his Stand powers, he possesses vast knowledge of Stand lore and tactical problem-solving.
Background
Living as a fortune teller in Cairo, Avdol once narrowly escaped an encounter with DIO before joining Joseph Joestar to recruit Jotaro Kujo. During their travels in India, he was shot in the forehead by Hol Horse and believed to be dead, but survived as the bullet only grazed his skull. He temporarily hid while securing a submarine for the team. In DIO's mansion, he heroically pushed his comrades out of the path of Vanilla Ice's Stand, sacrificing his life in the process.
Relationships
Avdol shares a deep mutual trust with Joseph Joestar, acting as his dependable partner. His relationship with Jean Pierre Polnareff begins with conflict but turns into a profound brotherhood; Avdol repeatedly endures deadly attacks to save Polnareff's life. He also maintains close bonds of friendship and respect with Jotaro Kujo, Noriaki Kakyoin, and Iggy.
Trivia
His name is derived from the American singer and choreographer Paula Abdul. While lying low on an island, he kept three pet chickens named Michael, Prince, and Lionel, which reference iconic American recording artists.
