Overview

A character featured in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders. Originally un-named in the manga and referred to simply as the Runaway Girl, author Hirohiko Araki later gave her the name Anne. Driven by a desire to see the world, she stows away on a ship leaving Hong Kong and forces her way into joining Jotaro Kujo and the Joestar group on their journey.

Appearance

She has a small build, short black hair, and blue eyes, with the TV anime depicting her with darker skin. Upon her initial appearance, she disguises herself as a young boy using outfits such as overalls. While still young with an undeveloped figure, she later displays her natural appearance in a shower scene.

Personality

She has a tomboyish, headstrong demeanor with somewhat rough language, yet possesses immense vitality and grit. She is skilled at haggling and surprisingly shrewd when dealing with adults. Despite her coarse edge, she demonstrates polite behavior toward older companions like Joseph Joestar and respectful address toward Noriaki Kakyoin. She also harbours a distinct fond affection for Jotaro Kujo.

Abilities

She is an ordinary human without a Stand and possesses no special combat powers or supernormal capabilities. Consequently, invisible Stand manifestations are hidden from her vision, though she can perceive and interact with bound Stands that manifest into physical objects such as vehicles or vessels.

Background

Seeking adventure while still young, she ran away from home under the pretense of visiting her father in Singapore, stowing away on a ship in Hong Kong. After being saved by Jotaro Kujo's group from enemy Stand users on board, she attached herself to their party. Though left behind in Singapore, she relentlessly pursued them into India via repeated stowaway trips. Recognizing the immense danger of their mission, Jotaro and his allies ultimately sent her safely back to Hong Kong.

Relationships

She develops a crush on Jotaro Kujo, who rescues her from danger on multiple occasions. She shows genuine respect toward Joseph Joestar, while maintaining a lively dynamic with Jean Pierre Polnareff, who once scolded her over an adult magazine she obtained. She also spent time traveling alongside Noriaki Kakyoin and Mohammed Avdol.

Trivia

Creator Hirohiko Araki introduced her to add variety to the group dynamic, inspired by ensemble casts like Seven Samurai, but eventually wrote her out after realizing the journey was too dangerous for a young girl. Araki assigned her the full name Merlai Anne, though adaptations shorten it to Anne. Notably, almost all Stand encounters she became involved in featured physical object-bound Stands visible to non-Stand users.
