Overview
Fungami Yuya is a character from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable. A high school student and leader of a motorcycle gang, he is a self-proclaimed narcissist who compares his own beauty to a sculpture by Michelangelo. He is accompanied by three female companions and possesses an extraordinarily sharp sense of smell along with the Stand Highway Star. Initially introduced as an antagonist, he later assists Josuke Higashikata in battle.
Appearance
Yuya has short black hair with shaved sides and a reverse triangle shape trimmed into the back. He has blue eyes, vertical lines on his forehead, and thick eyebrows that split at the ends. The initials "H☆S" are tattooed on his chin. His outfit includes a uniform with diamond flower patterns, metallic plates on the collar and belt—one bearing the character for his name and others reading "Highway Star"—and a scarf emblazoned with words like "Speed King" and "Highway" alongside star symbols.
Personality
Yuya is exceptionally narcissistic, continuously praising his own physical appearance while maintaining a entourage of three admirer girls. He naturally prefers to stay out of danger and avoid injury. However, he is capable of great loyalty and conviction; after witnessing Josuke Higashikata risk everything for a friend, Yuya adopts a self-sacrificing determination to protect others, proving himself to be genuinely brave when pushed to the limit.
Abilities
Yuya manipulates the remote-controlled Stand Highway Star. Possessing a sense of smell far superior to a hound, his Stand locks onto a target's scent and pursues them relentlessly at speeds up to 60 km/h. It can break its body down into footprint-shaped segments to navigate tight spaces and drains the physical nutrients of anyone it touches to heal Yuya. While it shares senses with Yuya and can telepathically project visual information, its physical strength is extremely low, lacking the power to crush a paper shredder.
Background
After suffering severe injuries in a motorcycle accident, Yuya acquired his Stand when struck by the Bow and Arrow. Desperate to recover, he set a Stand trap in a tunnel to drain energy from passersby, targeting Rohan Kishibe and Josuke Higashikata. Josuke healed Yuya's injuries only to beat him up immediately afterward, sending him back to the hospital. Later, Josuke sought Yuya's keen nose to track down the abducted Koichi Hirose. Though reluctant to fight Terunosuke Miyamoto, Yuya was moved by Josuke's selflessness and threw himself directly into enemy traps to rescue his allies.
Relationships
Yuya is constantly accompanied by three devoted female followers named Akemi, Yoshie, and Reiko. Initially an enemy to Josuke Higashikata, their relationship evolves into a strong mutual friendship after Yuya helps locate Koichi Hirose. He originally targeted Rohan Kishibe to absorb his energy in a tunnel ambush. During the encounter with Terunosuke Miyamoto, Yuya willingly walked into a trap to save both Josuke and Koichi.
Trivia
The name of his Stand, Highway Star, as well as the phrase "Speed King" written on his scarf, are derived from songs by the British hard rock band Deep Purple. Near the end of the story, Yuya becomes a regular customer at Tonio Trussardi's Italian restaurant in pursuit of further enhancing his personal beauty.
