Overview
Narciso Anasui is a major supporting character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. A twenty-five-year-old inmate incarcerated at Green Dolphin Street Prison for double murder, he becomes a devoted ally to Jolyne Cujoh after falling intensely in love with her. Driven by his desire to win her hand in marriage, he assists in her escape and fights alongside her companions using his Stand, Diver Down, which allows him to phase into objects and body parts.
Appearance
Anasui is a muscular man with long straight hair featuring a subtle cowlick, along with lipstick on his lips. He wears a headpiece adorned with spikes and a mesh top on his upper body. This top is decorated with shoe footprint patterns that function as pockets. In his initial appearance, he was depicted as a female figure before re-emerging with a distinctly masculine physique.
Personality
Anasui harbors an obsessive compulsion to disassemble physical objects, a trait present since his youth. Initially stoic and volatile, his demeanor shifts dramatically upon falling for Jolyne Cujoh, becoming relentlessly vocal and persistent about marrying her. In battle, he demonstrates a highly tactical mind, orchestrating clever plans using his powers. While originally indifferent toward anyone other than Jolyne, he gradually develops genuine solidarity and selflessness toward his fellow allies.
Abilities
Anasui commands the close-range power-type Stand named Diver Down. It can phase inside physical matter and living organisms to manipulate their internal architecture or unleash stored force from within. Although its range is short, the Stand can phase into injured allies to act as replacement limbs or absorb incoming strikes on their behalf. Anasui also utilizes it creatively to embed objects into his face for disguise or alter enemies' bodies into spring-like mechanisms and traps.
Background
At twenty-five years old, Anasui was sentenced to twelve years at Green Dolphin Street Prison after discovering his girlfriend's infidelity and methodically disassembling both her and her lover. While serving his term, he stayed in the prison's ghost room alongside Weather Report. When Foo Fighters sought assistance to rescue Jolyne Cujoh, Anasui agreed under the condition that he be permitted to marry Jolyne. He subsequently broke out of the penitentiary to fight alongside Jolyne's allies against Father Enrico Pucci.
Relationships
Anasui holds an unrequited, obsessive devotion toward Jolyne Cujoh, continuously seeking her hand in marriage while she views him as a dependable companion. He directly asks her father, Jotaro Kujo, for permission to marry Jolyne during battle, which Jotaro swiftly rejects. He shares a deep bond of mutual trust with Weather Report from their time in prison. Furthermore, after Foo Fighters sacrificed herself to save his life, Anasui formed a strong sense of commitment toward the entire group.
Trivia
Narciso Anasui's name is derived from the American fashion house Anna Sui. In his initial debut in the manga, he was illustrated as a female character before re-emerging as male. Manga creator Hirohiko Araki originally considered depicting a female-female romance between Jolyne and Anasui, but ultimately adjusted the character's gender to male due to publication constraints at the time.
