Overview
Donatello Versus is a supporting antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. He is one of the illegitimate sons of DIO, making him a half-brother to Giorno Giovanna, Ungalo, and Rikiel. Having suffered a remarkably tragic and absurdly unlucky life due to his dormant Stand abilities, he gains control over his power upon meeting Father Enrico Pucci. Seeking to overcome his long-running misfortune, Versus harbors a strong ambition to claim happiness for himself by seizing Pucci's path to Heaven.
Appearance
Versus features a distinct shaved line running down the middle of his head, paired with hair portrayed as either blonde or silver, and green or blue eyes. He wears suspenders as part of his outfit. Interestingly, his clothing, shoe size, and even the positioning of the belt holes on his wristwatch perfectly match those of Father Enrico Pucci.
Personality
Driven by a past filled with tragic misfortunes, Versus possesses a fierce hunger for personal happiness and a deep resentment toward unfair judgment and society. Although he initially presents a polite and submissive demeanor toward Father Pucci, he harbors a strong ambition that leads him to rebel against authority. He has a unique talent for correctly identifying the exact ingredients used in any food he eats.
Abilities
He controls the humanoid Stand Under World, which possesses the ability to dig up and recreate past memories recorded by the ground, such as a plane crash or historical traffic. Once an event is unearthed, the phenomena within it become an absolute fate that targets cannot alter or escape. If a target attempts to evade the event, Under World automatically interferes. Versus can freely choose and pull up specific times and events from his memory.
Background
Neglected by his mother and stepfather, Versus ran away at age thirteen, only to be wrongfully convicted of theft when a pair of shoes fell from the sky onto him. His unawakened Stand caused bizarre misfortunes to haunt him through reform school and adulthood. After being shot in the leg during a failed robbery, he met Pucci in a hospital, gaining full control over Under World. Seeking to steal Pucci's method of reaching Heaven, Versus betrayed the priest by restoring Weather Report's memory, but was ultimately manipulated by Pucci to serve as a body double, resulting in his death.
Relationships
He is one of DIO's sons and a half-brother to Giorno Giovanna, Ungalo, and Rikiel. While Father Enrico Pucci helped awaken his Stand powers, Versus grew resentful of Pucci's commands and ultimately betrayed him. He fought against Jolyne Cujo and Ermes Costello, though he temporarily co-operated with them during the chaotic snail transformation caused by Weather Report, whose memory disc Versus had stolen and restored. In the end, he was framed by Pucci and killed by Narciso Anasui.
Trivia
His name is derived from the Italian fashion brand and designer Donatella Versace. In his backstory, the spiked athletic shoes that fell from the sky and led to his wrongful arrest were originally donated to a facility for the disabled by the famous baseball player Ichiro.
