Overview
Cioccolata is a prominent antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind. He is a 34-year-old former surgeon who serves as a member of the elite guard directly under Diavolo, the boss of the Passione gang. A psychopathic sadist who derives supreme joy from observing the pain, agony, and dying moments of others, he is so morally repulsive that even Diavolo considers him absolute scum and kept him sequestered. During the story, Cioccolata and his partner are released as a last resort in Rome to track down and eliminate Bruno Bucciarati's team.
Appearance
Cioccolata features green, mold-shaped hair, green eyes, dark purple lipstick, and visible earrings. He wears a distinctive white crop-top outfit accompanied by matching white trousers. The attire is trimmed with purple edging and decorated with cross motifs throughout, leaving his midriff exposed.
Personality
Cioccolata is a cold, sadistic psychopath who views humans as mere experimental subjects. He finds supreme fulfillment in observing others suffer, die, and fall into utter despair from a position of superiority. Totally devoid of remorse or empathy, he possesses no moral restraint, willing to slaughter countless innocent civilians to satisfy his twisted curiosity. Though he serves Passione, he holds no true loyalty to Diavolo and harbors ambitions to defeat him and seize power. He treats his partner Secco like a trained pet, rewarding him with sugar cubes and lavishly praising him whenever he obeys orders.
Abilities
Cioccolata commands the humanoid Stand Green Day, which possesses pipe-like structures around its head and neck. It secretes a lethal, rapidly propagating mold over a massive range. The mold infects any living creature that moves downward or drops to a lower altitude, causing their flesh to rot, and spreads uncontrollably using victim corpses as vectors. Leveraging his expert surgical knowledge in tandem with his Stand, Cioccolata can intentionally dissect his own body into pieces, sealing the wounds with mold to stop bleeding and protect himself while remotely controlling his detached limbs to perform sneak attacks.
Background
At age fourteen, Cioccolata posed as a model volunteer in an elderly care facility, where he secretly drove elderly residents to suicide through malicious psychological torment and administration of unidentified drugs, recording their deaths on video. He later became a surgeon to study human agony legally, committing deliberate medical atrocities under the guise of accidents. After being dismissed from a hospital, he joined Passione. However, his unhinged cruelty led Diavolo to keep him confined until the rebellion of Bruno Bucciarati's team forced his deployment in Rome. Unleashing his lethal Stand upon the entire city, he engaged in a fierce battle against Giorno Giovanna, ultimately meeting a fatal defeat.
Relationships
Diavolo, the boss of Passione, deeply despised Cioccolata as absolute scum and kept him locked away due to his uncontainable danger, while Cioccolata secretly plotted to overthrow Diavolo. With his partner Secco, he formed a deadly combat duo characterized by a bizarre master-and-pet dynamic, where Cioccolata commanded Secco's complete obedience. In Rome, he targeted Bruno Bucciarati's squad, but his twisted philosophy was entirely dismantled by Giorno Giovanna, who delivered a devastating, extended strike that ended Cioccolata's life.
Trivia
Cioccolata's name is derived from the Italian word for chocolate. Creator Hirohiko Araki noted that the character's concept was inspired by contemporary news reports concerning pleasure killers and medical atrocities. His defeat at the hands of Giorno Giovanna features a famous extended beatdown spanning seven and a half pages in the manga, which was adapted into the anime with a dedicated team of key animators credited specifically for the sequence.
