Overview

Magenta Magenta is a minor antagonist and Stand user featured in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7: Steel Ball Run. Employed as an assassin by President Funny Valentine, he partners with Wekapipo to track down and intercept Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli.

Appearance

Magenta Magenta is a young man with dark, curly hair and dark eyes. He dresses in a heavy long coat paired with a top hat, an ascot tie, and fingerless gloves. His left eye is blinded and scarred from combat injuries. Due to his frail health, he frequently coughs and travels in a sled drawn by two horses rather than riding directly in a saddle.

Personality

Magenta Magenta has a talkative and unceremonious personality, often attempting to drop awkward jokes. He unilaterally treats his partner Wekapipo as a close friend, but possesses a shallow and impatient temperament, easily succumbing to hysteria when injured in battle. Coming from severe poverty, he works primarily for money and views himself as someone with nothing left to lose.

Abilities

His Stand, 20th Century BOY, takes the form of wearable head and shoulder armor. While active, it leaves him entirely immobile, but grants complete invincibility by redirecting all damage and physical impact into the ground. This defense protects him from gunfire, explosives, and drowning, while also suspending his need to breathe, eat, or drink. Since the Stand lacks offensive capabilities, he relies on firearms and explosives, including a shotgun, a revolver, and dynamite.

Background

During a clash with Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli, Magenta Magenta suffered severe facial trauma and lost his left eye. Abandoned on a frozen wasteland by Wekapipo, he was rescued by Diego Brando. Seeking revenge despite suffering severe lingering side effects, he shot Steven Steel in Philadelphia and confronted Wekapipo once more. During the confrontation, Wekapipo outsmarted him, binding him with steel wire attached to a carriage axle and dropping him to the bottom of the Delaware River. Unable to deactivate his Stand without drowning, he remained trapped underwater expecting Diego to save him, until he ultimately stopped thinking entirely.

Relationships

Magenta Magenta acts as a mercenary under President Funny Valentine. He originally considered his partner Wekapipo to be a close comrade, but came to harbor intense malice toward him after being left for dead. Following his rescue by Diego Brando, he developed a desperate reliance on Diego, believing until the end that Diego would come to retrieve him from the riverbed.

Trivia

His name is taken from the song "Magenta Magenta" by the Japanese hip-hop group SOUL'd OUT. His ultimate fate of being trapped helplessly until he ceases cognitive activity mirrors the fate of Kars from Part 2 of the series.
