Overview

Higashikata Kato is a major character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 8: JoJolion. She is the fifty-two-year-old former wife of Fourth Generation Higashikata Norisuke and the mother of Jobin, Hato, Joshu, and Daiya. After serving a fifteen-year prison sentence to protect her eldest son, she returns to the Higashikata estate. Fiercely devoted to her children, she acts with unwavering determination to protect her family and confront the tragic curse lingering over their lineage.

Appearance

Despite her age of fifty-two, she maintains a strikingly youthful facial appearance, though her expression occasionally shows subtle signs of aging. She has stylized long hair arranged with distinctive buns and twin curls featuring multi-toned coloration, and wears cosmetic touches such as lipstick. She routinely carries a deck of playing cards stamped with the Higashikata family crest.

Personality

She possesses an intense, overwhelming love for her children, maintaining that she never spent a single day forgetting them while incarcerated. However, she has a ruthless side and does not tolerate disrespect, swiftly disciplining her son Higashikata Joshu with her Stand when he acts inappropriately. She harbors deep resentment toward her former husband, Fourth Generation Higashikata Norisuke, for failing to shield her from conviction and divorcing her. Unrepentant about her past crimes, she considers any sacrifice justified for her children's sake and exhibits extreme calculation and composure under pressure.

Abilities

Her Stand, Space Trucking, grants her the ability to hide objects or living beings within the spatial gap between two playing cards marked with the Higashikata family crest. Because playing cards were permitted inside her prison facility, she successfully smuggled contraband such as a mobile phone into her cell. In combat situations, she can physically pin a target to the floor by placing them between a card floating in mid-air and another resting on the ground.

Background

When her eldest son, Higashikata Jobin, was eleven years old, his Stand power manifested during an attack by a bully. To save him from his lethal condition, she utilized the power of equivalent exchange tied to the land, which cost the bully his life. When the body was discovered years later, she took full responsibility to protect Jobin, serving fifteen years in prison for murder. Upon completing her sentence, she returned to the Higashikata estate with Jobin's secret assistance, demanding a property settlement from Fourth Generation Higashikata Norisuke while re-establishing her presence in the family.

Relationships

She holds strong resentment toward her ex-husband, Fourth Generation Higashikata Norisuke, for abandoning her to prison and divorcing her. In contrast, she shares a deep bond of mutual trust with her eldest son, Higashikata Jobin, who stayed in contact with her during her incarceration. Though she loves her other children—Higashikata Hato, Higashikata Joshu, and Higashikata Daiya—she strictly punishes Joshu when he acts rudely. She also takes decisive measures involving her grandson, Higashikata Tsurugi, and the antagonist Tooru to protect the family line.

Trivia

During her fifteen years in prison, her demeanor earned her immense respect and affection from the female correctional staff. Her Stand's name, Space Trucking, is derived from the famous song of the same title by the English rock band Deep Purple.
