Overview

Poco is a supporting character appearing in Part 1 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood. Living in the English town of Windknight's Lot alongside his older sister, he crosses paths with the main protagonist, Jonathan Joestar, under hazardous conditions. Although initially portrayed as a weak and helpless boy, Poco undergoes remarkable personal development after witnessing the noble determination of the heroic travelers. Despite having no combat training, his decisive choices directly influence the outcome of a critical conflict, cementing his place as an essential ally during the party's journey.

Appearance

Poco is depicted as a young boy with short hair. Visual details regarding his coloration vary depending on the medium: in the television anime adaptation, he features short brown hair paired with blue eyes, whereas in the official full-color comic release, he is rendered with blond hair and brown eyes.

Personality

Poco is deeply attached to his family, caring immensely for his older sister. He begins as a faint-hearted child who avoids confrontation due to a severe fear of physical pain. However, inspired by Jonathan Joestar's unwavering bravery and guided by his sister's stern advice, Poco develops incredible resilience. When faced with life-threatening dangers, he overcomes his cowardice and willingly endures physical harm to protect those he admires.

Abilities

Poco does not possess supernatural abilities such as the Ripple or specialized combat training. Instead, his key physical trait is his small body size. This petite frame enables him to slip through tight wall crevices and small windows that adult fighters cannot traverse, allowing him to infiltrate restricted spaces and manipulate mechanisms from within.

Background

Residing in Windknight's Lot, Poco fell under the hypnotic control of Dio Brando, who forced him to steal luggage from Jonathan Joestar's traveling party. After Jonathan rescued him from attacking zombies, the spell broke and Poco chose to accompany the group. During the fight against the undead knight Tarkus in the Dragon's Chamber, Jonathan became isolated behind locked doors. Poco bravely squeezed through a tiny gap in the wall into the chamber, enduring severe injury from Tarkus to unlock the entrance for Will A. Zeppeli. Following the battle, he rescued his sister and was later present to see off Jonathan and his wife.

Relationships

Poco shares a strong emotional bond with his elder sister, whose teachings motivate him during moments of crisis. He holds deep admiration for Jonathan Joestar and maintains friendly relations with Robert E. O. Speedwagon and Will A. Zeppeli. Conversely, he opposes Dio Brando, who manipulated his mind, as well as the undead knight Tarkus, who attacked him during his daring rescue attempt.

Trivia

Poco's name is derived from the American country rock band Poco, which was formed in 1968. Within the broader JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, he establishes the narrative archetype of a brave young child accompanying the main party, a role later echoed by characters such as Smokey Brown and Anne. Fans also frequently note the naming similarity between him and Pocoloco from Part 7, Steel Ball Run.
