Overview
Iggy is a supporting character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. He is a Boston Terrier gifted with exceptional intelligence and Stand powers. Formally a pampered house pet in New York, he ran away to become the leader of the city's stray dogs before being captured to assist Joestar's group in Egypt. Though initially detached from their mission, his fierce pride and unexpected sense of justice lead him to fight alongside them against their enemies.
Appearance
Iggy is a small Boston Terrier standing 33.3 cm tall, featuring black and white two-tone fur and blue eyes in the TV animation. His visual design shifts noticeably throughout the story: initially depicted with a realistic, blunt canine face, he later develops a much more expressive and human-like facial structure. During his battles in Cairo, he suffers severe physical injuries, including losing a front leg and sustaining broken bones.
Personality
Cynical, highly independent, and arrogant, Iggy harbors a strong disdain for humans and prefers a quiet, trouble-free life. He displays a notoriously rude habit of chewing on people's hair while breaking wind in their faces. Despite his selfish front, he possesses a noble and protective nature; he refuses to let dog-loving children get hurt and ultimately risks everything for his companions. He also has a massive sweet tooth, especially for coffee-flavored chewing gum.
Abilities
Iggy controls the Stand named The Fool, representing the zeroth Tarot card. Taking the shape of a large quadrupted entity with a tribal mask, feathered headpiece, and wheels for hind legs, it is bound to sand. By manipulating and shaping sand at will, Iggy can create gliders to soar through the air, construct defensive domes, or shape deceptive decoys. Because the Stand itself is composed of loose sand, physical strikes against it do not transfer damage to Iggy's body, granting him exceptional defense despite lower overall speed.
Background
Born to a wealthy family in New York, Iggy grew disillusioned with humans and ran away to rule the city's stray dog population. He was captured by Muhammad Avdol and sent to Egypt by the Speedwagon Foundation to assist the Joestar group. While initially refusing to fight, he was forced into a brutal battle against Pet Shop to protect a child, sacrificing a leg to win. Angered by DIO's henchmen, he led the heroes to DIO's mansion. In the final stretch, after defeating Kenny G, he shielded Jean Pierre Polnareff from Vanilla Ice's assault, exhausting his final strength and dying a hero.
Relationships
Jean Pierre Polnareff is Iggy's primary target for pranks, but their rocky interaction turns into a profound brotherhood during their battle inside DIO's mansion. Muhammad Avdol is the strategist who originally tracked and captured Iggy in New York, later sacrificing his life to protect Iggy and Polnareff from Vanilla Ice. Jotaro Kujo initially clashes with Iggy's uncooperative nature—even using him as a airborne projectile—yet both come to respect each other's combat capabilities.
Trivia
Iggy's name is derived from the American musician Iggy Pop, with his Stand name likely referencing the artist's album and songs. He is one of series creator Hirohiko Araki's personal favorite characters, often drawn in post-serialization artwork with a blend of his early and late designs. Video game adaptations frequently feature alternate character models and movesets to showcase both his initial realistic canine face and his later stylized, highly expressive human-like face.
