Overview
Risotto Nero is a character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind. He serves as the leader of the Hitman Team within the Italian mafia organization Passione. Although he and his team execute dangerous assassination missions for the gang, their poor compensation and low status drive them to harbor intense dissatisfaction. Possessing exceptional tactical intellect and unwavering resolve, Risotto leads his loyal subordinates in a dangerous rebellion to uncover the mysterious identity of Passione's Boss.
Appearance
Risotto features distinct eyes with black sclera and red irises. His hair is depicted as purple in the original manga, while animated adaptations present it as silver-white. He wears a dark, open-chested long coat paired with striped pants and footwear worn without socks. His head is covered by a unique hood adorned with hanging metallic spheres that spell out his full name.
Personality
Risotto is exceptionally calm, methodical, and analytical under pressure. Beneath his cold, calculating exterior as an elite hitman lies a deep sense of loyalty and care for his comrades. The horrific fate suffered by his fellow squad members fuels his quiet grief and relentless wrath against Passione's leadership. In battle, he demonstrates remarkable tenacity and readiness to sacrifice himself to achieve his goals.
Abilities
Risotto commands the Stand Metallica, a swarm of microscopic units residing within his own body. Metallica uses magnetism to manipulate iron, allowing Risotto to form sharp metal objects like razor blades and scissors directly inside an enemy's bloodstream, causing severe internal hemorrhage and fatal oxygen deficiency. He can also coat his body in fine iron powder to turn invisible by blending into the environment, and use blood iron as an adhesive to temporarily reattach severed limbs.
Background
Born in Sicily, Risotto entered the criminal underworld at age eighteen after hunting down the drunk driver who killed his cousin's child. Awakening his Stand at age twenty-one, he joined Passione and rose to lead the Hitman Team. Resenting the gang's unfair treatment and seeking revenge after two teammates were brutally executed by the Boss, Risotto initiated a revolt. While tracking Trish Una to locate the Boss, he encountered Vinegar Doppio on the island of Sardinia, leading to a fierce fight where Risotto pushed his opponent to the limit.
Relationships
As squad leader, Risotto held deep respect for his teammates, including Prosciutto, Formaggio, and others. The horrific execution of squad members Sorbet and Gelato inspired his revenge against Passione's leader, Diavolo. During his hunt for the Boss's daughter, Risotto tracked Bruno Bucciarati's squad and engaged in a fatal duel against Vinegar Doppio, the Boss's alternate persona.
Trivia
Risotto Nero's name translates from Italian to "black risotto," referring to squid ink risotto. The design of his Stand, Metallica, draws visual inspiration from red blood cells and cells, with an appearance recalling the Hattifatteners from Moomin stories. Additionally, elements of his outfit accessories were inspired by creatures disliked by creator Hirohiko Araki's wife.
