Overview

Abyssal Crane Princess is an enemy boss character appearing in the browser game Kantai Collection, classified as a Standard Aircraft Carrier. She made her debut as the final boss of Area E-7 in the Winter 2018 Event, "Battle of Leyte Gulf (Part 2)," marking the grand climax of the game's Phase 1. As the abyssal counterpart of the fleet aircraft carrier Zuikaku, she embodies the lingering sorrow and vengeance of the warships lost during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

Appearance

She features white hair styled in high twin tails that curve upward like a flower or crown, with strands framing between her red eyes, set against pale skin. Two short horns sprout near her temples, and her ears are adorned with long earrings made of three linked black squares. She wears a ribbed sweater, detached sleeves, black gloves, and a hakama skirt. Compared to other abyssal princess-class entities, she has a distinctly flat chest. She rides atop a massive abyssal rigging resembling a whale, outfitted with a flight deck and triple-gun mounts.

Personality

She possesses a sadistic and vengeful temperament, taking grim satisfaction in taunting her opponents with the coldness and despair of the ocean floor. During combat, she displays manic glee while launching heavy assaults. However, upon her defeat, her malevolence fades into a quiet, solemn moment of recognition, seeing her own true self in the opponent. Supplementary material depicts her emotional volatility, shifting abruptly from aggressive coercion to sudden displays of intimacy.

Abilities

Operating with super-long firing range, she is a heavily armored Standard Aircraft Carrier with high durability and immense aircraft capacity. She deploys specialized abyssal aircraft including Night Abyssal Fighters, Abyssal Attack Patrol Hawks Kai, Night Abyssal Dive Bombers, and Night Revenge Abyssal Torpedo Bombers, enabling overwhelming air supremacy and strikes. In her damaged form, her firepower and defense increase drastically, leading an elite abyssal combined fleet.

Background

She was introduced in the Winter 2018 Event as the final challenge set off Cape Engaño during the Leyte Gulf campaign. Conceptually, she represents the concentrated grief of multiple ships lost during the historic battle, incorporating design elements from Zuikaku, Zuihou, and Musashi. As the final boss of the game's Phase 1, her engagement served as a major historical milestone for the player base.

Relationships

She is the abyssal dark counterpart to the aircraft carrier Zuikaku, sharing an inseparable tragic connection that is recognized upon her defeat. Her design incorporates visual motifs from other ships lost in the same campaign, notably Zuihou and Musashi. She also forms a direct thematic counterpart to Aircraft Carrier Water Demon, who is modeled after Zuikaku's older sister, Shoukaku.

Trivia

Her distinctive upward-curved hairstyle is modeled after both the white spider lily and the historical crew of Zuikaku giving a final banzai salute as the ship went down. In flower language, the white spider lily symbolizes looking forward to a future reunion. Her voice actress, Iori Nomizu, also voiced Anchorage Water Demon, the final boss of the game's very first event in 2013, effectively framing the entirety of Phase 1 with her performances.
