Overview

Giuseppe Garibaldi is a character in Kantai Collection based on the second ship of the Italian Navy's Duca degli Abruzzi-class light cruisers. She stands out as the first Italian light cruiser added to the game, primarily abbreviated in-game as G.Garibaldi. Characterized by her spirited, tomboyish tone alongside a steadfast sense of duty toward her superiors, she serves as a powerful and dependable light cruiser within the player's fleet.

Appearance

She features short pink hair, pink eyes, and a voluptuous chest. She wears a white mini kepi cap inspired by a ship's bridge structure. Her outfit consists of a red collared top with side openings exposing her armpits, a white inner layer over the bust, a red skirt, red knee-high boots, white gloves, and an earring on her left ear. Her back-mounted rigging incorporates triple and twin gun turrets alongside torpedo tubes, adorned with red and white national identification stripes.

Personality

She possesses a brisk, tomboyish temperament paired with a strong sense of devotion. Adopting the historical motto "I obey," she demonstrates remarkable loyalty toward the Admiral, often taking care of domestic tasks such as preparing meals. She holds immense respect for her elder sister, Luigi di Savoia Duca degli Abruzzi, from whom she learned her culinary skills. While she regards smaller Japanese light cruisers as tiny, she interacts casually and without reserve toward fellow Italian heavy cruisers.

Abilities

Upon modification, she gains access to four equipment slots. She boasts high performance among light cruisers, including top-tier durability, armor on par with heavy cruisers, and impressive daytime and nighttime firepower. She also possesses exceptional luck stats. Equipping her historical main guns yields cumulative stat bonuses that maximize her damage output, though her fuel and ammunition consumption rates are notably heavy for her ship class.

Background

She made her debut in May 2019 as a reward for completing an event map in the "Execute! Foreign Force Rescue Operation 'Second Hawaii Operation'" event. She represented the second foreign light cruiser introduced to the game. Her historical namesake survived World War II and later underwent conversion into a guided-missile cruiser fitted for Polaris missile trials, remaining active in service until 1972.

Relationships

She looks up to Luigi di Savoia Duca degli Abruzzi, the lead ship of her class, affectionately addressing her as her elder sister and attributing her cooking skills to her. She maintains a completely familiar, unfiltered relationship with Zara-class heavy cruisers such as Zara and Pola, pointing out that her own ship class exceeds theirs in overall length. She also shares cordial ties with Aquila and Roma, while making lighthearted comments about the smaller size of Japanese light cruisers like Sendai.

Trivia

Her name derives from Giuseppe Garibaldi, the renowned hero of Italian unification. Her red attire reflects the iconic red shirts worn by Garibaldi's volunteer legion, which were originally inspired by standard red woolen shirts used by American butchers. Her motto stems from a historic telegraph sent during the Third Italian War of Independence. Upon her initial release in-game, her name briefly contained minor typographic errors, which were subsequently patched.
