Overview

Brooklyn is a light cruiser shipgirl from Kantai Collection, representing the lead ship of the United States Navy's Brooklyn-class. Introduced during the late stage of the Summer 2022 event as a drops-only ship, she stands out as one of the few American ships with no historical combat record against the Imperial Japanese Navy. As a result, she bears no hostility toward Japanese vessels and approaches base life with a mature, practical mindset, acting as a reliable and attentive big-sister figure to the Admiral.

Appearance

She features long, pin-straight reddish-blonde hair accessorized with a Casablanca lily hairpiece, dark red eyes, and a voluptuous bust. Her base outfit consists of a white sleeveless jacket worn over a black sleeveless undershirt, a blue skirt, a red neckerchief, white camouflage thigh-high socks with garter straps, and rudder-shaped footwear. Her naval rigging houses five triple 152mm main gun mounts and two quad 40mm anti-aircraft guns. For Halloween, she dons a bride-themed outfit paired with facial/body paint, bright red color contacts, and a bouquet of white roses.

Personality

Unlike her more carefree younger sister Honolulu, Brooklyn displays a grounded, sensible temperament. While maintaining a naturally cheerful American demeanor, she takes deep pride in support duties, such as Atlantic convoy escorts and submarine rescue operations. Highly attentive to the Admiral's daily routine, she frequently prepares home-cooked meals and checks in on their well-being. Despite her composed nature, she struggles to stay awake during late-night shifts, often falling asleep around 3 AM and murmuring sweet nonsense in her sleep.

Abilities

Upon acquisition, her torpedo and anti-submarine stats start at zero, requiring modernization before she can perform torpedo attacks. She receives stat bonuses when equipped with SG Radar series equipment or 5-inch twin dual-purpose gun mounts (concentrated deployment). After her Remodel (Kai), her maximum Luck stat reaches 97—one of the highest among light cruisers—making her valuable for fleet survival and boosting the activation rates of special fleet attacks.

Background

Historically transferred to the Atlantic theater before the Pacific War broke out, Brooklyn served primarily in Atlantic and Mediterranean convoy escort missions and submarine rescue operations. After World War II, she was sold to Chile and continued active service for decades. Because she never engaged Japanese forces in battle, she holds no traumatic memories of them in-game, spending her peaceful days at the naval base serving local New York dishes to the Admiral.

Relationships

She feels a strong protective affection for her younger sister, Honolulu, showing concern over her combat history with the 2nd Torpedo Squadron. She maintains warm friendships with fellow American shipgirls like Massachusetts and Ranger, often planning gatherings with them. Towards the Admiral, she exhibits a fond, affectionate attitude, constantly cooking meals—such as homemade salsa hot dogs, New York cheesecake, and artichoke pizza—to care for their daily life.

Trivia

The meals she prepares for the Admiral—bagel sandwiches for breakfast, salsa hot dogs and cheesecake for lunch, and artichoke pizza for dinner—are all iconic foods associated with Brooklyn, New York. Her Halloween costume is inspired by the Bride of Frankenstein, which briefly gained attention among players as the game's first wedding-dress-like seasonal outfit.
