Overview
Naganami is a fleet girl in Kantai Collection, based on the fourth vessel of the Yuugumo-class destroyers. Brimming with energy and armed with a fiery combat spirit, she frequently refers to herself as 'Naganami-sama'. Reflecting her distinguished historical achievements, she possesses relatively high luck stats among her class and plays a active role in destroyer fleet operations.
Appearance
Naganami features waist-length wavy hair with a unique split coloring—black on the exterior and pink on the interior—tied with a yellow bow at the back, accompanied by yellow eyes. Her standard uniform consists of a white shirt with a blue bowtie, a purple pleated halterneck dress, grey tights, and lace-up boots. Although her everyday outfit is low-exposure, taking mid-level damage reveals a remarkably voluptuous bust. She also has several alternate visual variants, such as a fried rice chef attire with a headscarf and apron, a festival yukata with an exposed right leg, and swimsuits.
Personality
She possesses a confident, tomboyish temperament reminiscent of a neighborhood ringleader, accompanied by a casual preference for late-night television and fried rice. Beneath her rough demeanor, she is attentive and caring toward those around her, frequently checking on her fleetmates. She maintains a friendly, straightforward relationship with the Admiral, whom she measures alongside the legendary commanders she deeply respects. Occasionally, her blunt nature gives way to subtle hints of traditional girlhood or humorous, world-weary commentary.
Abilities
Naganami operates with standard destroyer parameters, providing valuable anti-submarine equipment such as the Type 3 Sonar upon her initial remodeling. Her combat rigging includes a backpack-mounted funnel and foremast, a hand-held 12.7cm twin gun mount, and two 61cm quadruple torpedo tubes mounted on thigh straps. Beyond direct ship combat, she plays a central role in upgrading naval rations and gains upgraded combat potential through her secondary remodeling.
Background
Introduced as the fourth Yuugumo-class vessel, Naganami was historically involved in intense frontline duties including transport operations and nighttime surface engagements. In-game, this historical background surfaces through her unique commentary regarding transport drums. Having served alongside destroyers such as Shimakaze, Makinami, and Takanami, she carries memories of heavy battles while standing as a proud and dependable member of the fleet.
Relationships
Naganami shares a close bond with Shimakaze, having participated in multiple operations alongside her. Takanami idolizes her as a dependable elder sister, while Makinami and Asashimo stand as trusted battle companions. She also maintains deep ties with fellow squadron leaders and destroyers including Jintsuu, Teruzuki, Kasumi, Abukuma, and Oboro. Additionally, she shows a tolerant, friendly attitude toward Nenohi despite her frequent disruptions.
Trivia
Her inclusion on the packaging for a fried rice riceball during a Lawson collaboration campaign led directly to her receiving an official in-game 'Fried Rice mode'. She also frequently appears as the equipment fairy model for advanced light-cruiser and destroyer command gear. Due to her unexpectedly large bust hidden under her standard uniform, fans often refer to her by specialized nicknames celebrating her physical design.
