Pt Imp Group
The Pt Imp Group is an Abyssal ship enemy unit appearing in Kantai Collection. Modeled after the United States Navy patrol torpedo boats used during World War II, it belongs to a unique ship category designated as a Pack or Group. Debuting in the Fall 2015 event, these entities represent small swarms of coastal craft rather than conventional warships, serving as persistent tactical obstacles that frustrate players with their extraordinary mobility. Operating in groups rather than as individual war vessels, they play a distinct defensive role within enemy fleets.
Overview
The Pt Imp Group is an Abyssal ship enemy unit appearing in Kantai Collection. Modeled after the United States Navy patrol torpedo boats used during World War II, it belongs to a unique ship category designated as a Pack or Group. Debuting in the Fall 2015 event, these entities represent small swarms of coastal craft rather than conventional warships, serving as persistent tactical obstacles that frustrate players with their extraordinary mobility. Operating in groups rather than as individual war vessels, they play a distinct defensive role within enemy fleets.
Appearance
They appear as a trio of small baby- or fetus-like figures operating as a single unit. They feature pale skin, short white hair, blue eyes, and short eyebrows. Their heads resemble miniature Abyssal I-class destroyers with prominent horns, while their bodies incorporate an umbilical cord-like tube alongside black diaper-like armor plating.
Personality
Although they do not speak in coherent human language, they exhibit distinct auditory reactions, emitting high-pitched laughter when initiating attacks and uttering sharp screams when taking damage. They act with relentless aggression despite their small stature. Their unsettling combination of an infantile physical form and unnatural vocalizations gives them an eerie atmosphere, instilling discomfort and dread in opposing Admirals.
Abilities
Equipped with 22-inch torpedoes and small autocannons, they can deliver high-probability torpedo cut-in attacks during night battles despite their low shelling power. Although possessing minimal health, their extraordinarily high evasion causes most attacks from battleships and heavy torpedoes to miss or deal scratch damage. Attacks from destroyers, light cruisers, secondary guns, anti-aircraft guns, and Skilled Lookouts gain substantial accuracy bonuses against them. Additionally, specialized land-based aircraft like the Hayabusa Model III Kai (65th Squadron) and the destroyer Amagiri deal severe bonus damage to them.
Background
The unit draws its historical inspiration from United States Navy PT boat forces deployed in Pacific battlefields such as the Solomon Islands. Upon their debut in the Fall 2015 event "Charge! Maritime Transport Operation," a programming oversight caused an extreme evasion bug that rendered them nearly immune to standard fleet attacks. Although the issue was quickly patched and compensated with a special wall scroll furniture item, subsequent rebalances preserved their reputation as difficult obstacles capable of stalling heavy surface fleets in event maps.
Relationships
They share a historical connection with the Japanese destroyer Amagiri, whose real-world counterpart famously collided with and sank an American PT boat. In Kantai Collection, upgraded forms of Amagiri possess special targeting priorities and damage multipliers against them. On the battlefield, they frequently form mixed strike forces alongside Na-Class Destroyers or serve as high-evasion escorts for major Abyssal flagships like Battleship Summer Princess and Airfield Princess.
Trivia
They hold the distinction of being the only Abyssal ship type whose official designation incorporates Latin letters. Additionally, they were the first non-Princess and non-Demon class Abyssal unit to receive dedicated voice samples. The compensatory wall scroll furniture distributed following their initial release includes an interactive mechanism that sways while playing their screeching audio when clicked.
