Overview
Urakaze is a fleet girl from Kantai Collection representing the eleventh ship of the Kagerou-class destroyers, belonging to the 17th Destroyer Division. Characterized by her speech inspired by the Hiroshima dialect, she combines a mature, caring presence with an exceptionally sleek visual proportion unusual for her vessel class.
Appearance
She has blue hair styled into twin buns tied with fluttering blue ribbons, topped with a sailor hat, and bright blue eyes. Her uniform is a white and blue serafuku with a yellow neckerchief, a pleated skirt, white socks, and long elbow gloves. The sleeves of her shirt are rolled up high to create a sleeveless appearance, showing her collarbone, armpits, and side midriff. Her rigging is mounted horizontally along her back and sides, armed with depth charges and two hand-held naval gun mounts resembling pistols. In her seasonal autumn outfit, she dons a dark blue yukata with morning glory patterns, tied with a golden-brown obi and red cord, black geta with red straps, a white dog mask on the right side of her head, and holds a cork gun alongside plush dolls of Tanikaze and Isokaze.
Personality
Bright, diligent, and naturally attentive, Urakaze possesses a nurturing personality. She routinely looks after those around her, such as preparing meals for companions who lack cooking skills, and treats the Admiral with affectionate warmth and sweet reassurance. While her everyday speech is gentle and relaxed, her demeanor drastically shifts during intense combat and night battles, where she barks fierce, commanding war cries.
Abilities
Urakaze specializes heavily in anti-submarine warfare, utilizing sonar equipment and depth charge projectors to deal with underwater threats effectively. Upon reaching her specialized D-Kai form, her performance in both anti-aircraft and anti-submarine roles increases significantly, granting her the ability to perform opening anti-submarine attacks with minimal gear requirements. She can also equip medium bulges and Special Type 2 Launch amphibious tanks.
Background
Her background is tied to the historical legacy of naval destroyers constructed in Osaka and stationed at the Kure Naval District. Arriving at the naval base through coastal drops and sorties, she sorties alongside her sister ships of the 17th Destroyer Division while enjoying seasonal festivities around the home port.
Relationships
She shares close bonds with her 17th Destroyer Division mates Hamakaze, Isokaze, and Tanikaze, even carrying miniature dolls of the latter two during autumn festivals. She holds great respect and affection for Kongou, whom she calls Kongou-neesan, and treats her class sister Yukikaze as an older sister figure.
Trivia
The slight blend of Osaka accents in her speech stems from the historical background of being constructed in Osaka while serving under Kure. The specialized high-angle gun mount provided upon her first upgrade gained the popular fan nickname Urakaze-hou.
