Overview

Light Cruiser Tsu-Class is an Abyssal light cruiser appearing in Kantai Collection. Serving primarily as an anti-aircraft cruiser within the enemy fleets, she stands out among Abyssal light cruisers for her remarkably humanoid female physique. Even in her base form, her combat capabilities equal or exceed top-tier light cruisers, while her elite and flagship variants scale to match heavy cruisers and battleships. She is widely feared by players for her ability to inflict devastating losses on carrier aircraft.

Appearance

Tsu-Class has a humanoid female body with short white hair covering one of her red eyes. A visor made of black Abyssal tissue obscures her face. Her most distinctive features are her oversized forearms encased in large black gloves. Her right arm is fitted with a twin gun turret and torpedo launch tubes, while her left arm carries two twin gun turrets. She wears highly revealing, torn clothing featuring a loose cloth tied around her waist and a single thighhigh stocking.

Personality

In battle, Tsu-Class is a cold and relentless opponent that mercilessly shoots down enemy aircraft. However, her in-game behavior in KanColle Arcade reveals an unexpected trait: she regularly performs a polite bowing animation while idle and immediately after taking hit damage. This bizarre visual reaction led players to affectionately joke about her having a masochistic or strangely polite nature despite her lethal combat performance.

Abilities

Equipped with two 5-inch twin dual-purpose gun mounts, Tsu-Class boasts extraordinary anti-air capabilities that easily wipe out incoming aircraft squadrons and reset aircraft proficiency. Alongside her high torpedo firepower, she utilizes sonar for effective anti-submarine warfare and is capable of carrying seaplanes. As she upgrades to elite and flagship tiers, her durability and armor rival heavy cruisers, and she gains the ability to execute anti-air cut-in attacks in the arcade version.

Background

Tsu-Class made her debut on September 12, 2014, as the boss of Extra Operation World 3-5. Her elite variant was subsequently added to World 6 and event maps. Following the introduction of the aircraft proficiency system in the Summer 2015 Event, her anti-air capabilities made her a dreaded enemy capable of single-handedly destroying elite air groups such as the Tomonaga and Murata squadrons. She gained a flagship tier during the Spring 2019 Event, solidifying her status across high-difficulty encounters.

Relationships

Having debuted around the same period, Tsu-Class is frequently paired with Northern Princess in secondary fan creations, often depicted in a caretaker, butler, or subordinate role. On the battlefield, she acts as a major nemesis to aircraft carriers like the First Carrier Division and elite air units. Due to her heavy anti-aircraft weaponry, players have drawn design comparisons to Yuubari as well as the United States Navy's Atlanta-class light cruisers.

Trivia

In the Chinese fan community, Tsu-Class earned the nickname "Grandpa 66" due to her elite variant possessing 66 HP, a moniker inspired by Heavy Cruiser Ne-Class. While early theories speculated her design was based on the US Navy's Atlanta-class light cruisers, the subsequent addition of Atlanta and Anti-Air Cruiser Princess led players to view Tsu-Class as the personification of the anti-aircraft cruiser concept itself.
