Her outfit consists of a black vest over a short-sleeved white dress shirt, a black pleated skirt, black kneehighs, white gloves, brown loafers, and a red bowtie at her neck. Her back rigging includes a bridge structure, foremast, quad torpedo tubes, and a twin gun mount. She holds a second twin mount like a handgun and wears anti-aircraft guns strapped to her thighs.

Maikaze possesses an exceptionally bright and energetic personality. She strongly dislikes gloomy atmospheres, preferring to approach both daily life and combat as if they were joyful dance routines. She is naturally friendly, frequently encouraging the Admiral to dance with her. Beneath her cheerful facade lies emotional resilience, maintaining her positive demeanor to overcome the heavy historical memories associated with her past.

Abilities

As a destroyer, Maikaze exhibits average combat performance. Her battle style is defined by spinning, jumping, and dancing movements across the battlefield. Her armament includes quad torpedo tubes for launching torpedo strikes, a handheld twin gun mount for flexible shelling, and thigh-mounted anti-aircraft guns for air defense.

Background

Constructed as the 18th Kagerou-class destroyer, Maikaze served within the 4th Destroyer Division. Historically, she participated in scuttling the carrier Akagi at Midway and escorted fleet carriers in naval campaigns. During the raid on Truk, her fleet faced overwhelming enemy warships; despite taking catastrophic damage, she fired back until being split in two and sunk. In the game, she can be acquired in regions such as Map 3-3, serving with an energetic smile.

Relationships

Maikaze maintains a tight bond with her 4th Destroyer Division squadmates, particularly Nowaki, who was her final companion ship. She also shares connections with carriers such as Akagi and Zuikaku from escort duties. Regarding the American battleship Iowa, she initially harbored trauma from past encounters, but alongside the training cruiser Katori, she overcame her fears to warmly welcome Iowa into the fleet.

Trivia

While her historical name refers to a whirlwind, its literal kanji translation of 'dancing wind' inspired her character trait of loving dance. Designed by illustrator Konishi, Maikaze was the first member of the 4th Destroyer Division to receive a dedicated Valentine private clothing CG in the game.
