Akashi

Overview

Akashi is a shipgirl in Kantai Collection modeled after the sole purpose-built repair ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Functioning as the fleet's premier support character, she originally appeared as the friendly proprietor of the in-game item shop before joining the playable roster. Within the game, Akashi operates the Improvement Arsenal and provides essential repair services directly at the anchorage. Recognized for her blend of business savvy and mechanical expertise, she acts as a dedicated backstage engineer who keeps the fleet in prime fighting condition.

Appearance

Akashi features long pink hair tied into tresses with red ribbons, green eyes, and single eyelids. She wears a sailor suit over a light blue zippered shirt, paired with a short pleated skirt designed like an open-sided andon-hakama and thigh-high stockings. Her back is equipped with heavy industrial cranes, alongside armor plates fitted to her shoulder and legs. Following her remodel, she adds a white hachimaki headband to her outfit, and defensive armaments including high-angle guns and machine guns are integrated into her rigging.

Personality

Akashi is polite, approachable, and maintains a warm relationship with the Admiral. She takes great pride in her maintenance work, demonstrating a passionate and precise attitude toward mechanical engineering. Simultaneously, she possesses a shrewd, entrepreneurial spirit, frequently encouraging the Admiral to spend resources or microtransaction items while dropping playful hints for gifts. While enthusiastic about repair work, she feels out of her element in active naval combat and displays clear reluctance when tasked with battle duties.

Abilities

When designated as the fleet flagship, Akashi gains access to her signature Anchorage Repair capability, which automatically mends escort ships damaged up to minor status without using dockyards. Equipping her with a Ship Repair Facility expands the maximum number of ships she can repair simultaneously by one per facility. Additionally, serving as the secretary ship enables access to the Improvement Arsenal, allowing players to upgrade and transform naval equipment using improvement materials. Conversely, her direct combat stats and evasion are among the lowest in the game.

Background

Her historical namesake was named after the famous scenic area Akashi-no-ura in Hyogo Prefecture and served as an essential floating shipyard for the Japanese navy, particularly at Truk Lagoon. In the game, Akashi initially greeted players as the non-playable shopkeeper of the item store, earning the nickname Item Shop Lady. She was formally released as a playable shipgirl as the clear reward for Map E-2 during the Spring 2014 Event. In October of the same year, her role expanded significantly with the release of the Improvement Arsenal feature.

Relationships

Akashi maintains a close camaraderie with Ooyodo, another NPC-turned-shipgirl who handles administrative duties in the port. She frequently collaborates with Yuubari when conducting equipment development, research, and technical retrofits in the dockyard. Regarding the Admiral, she exhibits a friendly, casual affection, often teasing him by asking if he needs physical repairs whenever he interacts with her.

Trivia

Her specialized menu features her own theme BGM titled Akashi's Arsenal. Due to her role as the fleet's primary repair specialist and her signature pink color scheme, fan art frequently depicts her in a pink nurse uniform, a popular community incarnation known as Akashi Nurse.
